A Note From Debra

We opened the doors in 2005. At the start, there were just a few of us and we were a tiny boutique. We made all our products in very small batches, put the labels on, and tied all the bows ourselves. We only had one or two estheticians working on a daily basis. It takes a lot of time and effort to start a boutique and to launch a product line. Things start very slow.

I loved what we were doing so much, and wondered if people would love what we were doing too.

It took me at least three years of planning to fully develop the idea of Frilly Lilly. I would create vision boards, read design books, go to antique shops, work with chemists, and a long list of other things. Some small details changed over the years, but I always wanted to create a beauty boutique. I wanted to have our own signature bath and body care products too. In this way, I knew I would love every part of Frilly Lilly.

I was fortunate to have the help from my children and friends: Lisa, Jeremy, Claudia, and Carly all helped our very first boutique grow, and flourish. I’m so grateful for their contributions to our development, some of which continue today.

Shortly after we opened, I was in Las Vegas for a business trip. I don’t know what motivated me to do it, but I decided I wanted to show our products to a few businesses. After putting so much effort into developing our products, I think I was hoping for some feedback.

The first place I visited was the Palms Hotel, and they decided to place an order on the spot! We had never planned on selling our products to businesses other than Frilly Lilly boutiques, it caught us off-guard. W were completely unprepared for such immediate appreciation and demand. The next two places I visited were the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas and Fred Segal in Los Angeles. They both placed orders. We were all so shocked, and excited. Not to mention it was extremely encouraging receiving such unbridled support from trendsetting businesses so early on.

Within a few years, our first boutique was successful, and we had other businesses carrying Frilly Lilly products. At that point, I felt prepared to open more Frilly Lilly boutiques. I was passionate about the idea of being able to expand our female-founded company, as well as providing other women with the opportunity for leadership and entrepreneurship. I wanted to give women the tools they needed to be empowered and successful.

Our next boutiques opened in 2009 in Calgary’s McKenzie Towne, and in Victoria (BC). Shortly after, we opened our Aspen, and Crowfoot Corner boutiques in Calgary, and our boutique in Vancouver’s trendy Yaletown. We garnered more and more acclaim for our space, products, and services. All the while, strong female candidates presented themselves in the running to open their own Frilly Lilly boutiques in their own neighbourhoods, and cities.

There are still times when I’m shocked that we have more than one boutique. I’m so proud of everything we have accomplished. It’s hard for me to believe that not long ago, there was only a handful of us doing the best we could to bring a dream to life. The community we’ve created is better than I could have dreamed, and I am so excited to see where we grow next!

I booked an appointment with 29 days in advance due to my busy schedule (I even received an email right after notifying of date&time). However, they sent me a reminder via email a day before saying my appointment was actually 2h later than what I booked. When I called them to inquire about that, the lady apologized saying someone had changed it without checking or notifying me, and simply asked when I could reschedule. It would be my 1st time there, so I can't coment in regards the procedures provided, but unfortunately I didn't experience the customer service they claim they have, so I decided to not rebook .

I recently have developed a condition where I am unable to restrict my oxygen by wearing a mask. I have gone into many businesses recently without any issues. When I entered the facility I was asked to put on a mask, I said I have an exemption (as it is no one’s business what my medical condition is,) I was then asked for proof, there are no exemption cards given anymore and I haven’t been able to get into my family doctor since the condition developed, and the specialist was unable to write one. Very hesitant, I agreed that I would put the mask on over my mouth, but again I am not supposed to restrict my oxygen at this time. The receptionist said it was fine, the technician came out and said it was not. If I didn’t cover my nose she wasn’t going to take me in for the appointment. I would have left right then, but I was in much need of the appointment. As per the City of Edmonton website β€œBusinesses or operators are not expected to enforce the City’s mask bylaw or to have negative interactions with customers.” I understand you’re reasoning will be that you are keeping everyone safe but again from the City of Edmonton website: "Wearing masks or face coverings is a community effort for those who can. Please remember to be kind to those who are unable to wear masks." I have been coming here for at least 4 years, I even moved out of Windermere a year and a half ago and still made the drive to come back and support this business. If you can please delete my online account that would be appreciated. Thanks for your service, I will take my business elsewhere in the future.

I have nothing but great feedback about Frill Lily Windermere. I've been in multiple times now and each visit has been relaxing and enjoyable. The staff are very warm and friendly and the decor is beautiful and comfortable. Thanks to Druvika for my most recent (and great) pampering pedicure!
