Only one server running the show and she was top notch! Their famous bao was not bad, everything else we ordered was average. The โ€˜highlightโ€™ of our dining experience there was one woman who sat at least 5m away from us but we literally heard every word of her conversation. Kept talking about school, kids, education etc, definitely having a mid-life crisis lol.

Definitely authentic Shanghai local specialty. What was a pleasant surprise for me was that they even have the authentic Shanghai rice vinegar to go with the shengjian bao. Best dishes are shengjian bao, fresh meat wonton soup, Shanghai veggie and meat wonton, vegetarian chicken.

Really delicious dumplings! I've been searching for good pan fried soup dumplings for a while and these are really well made. Not too doughy or thick. Will be back to try something else!

Understaffed and overpriced for the amount of food. The pan fried bun was decent but not worth a trip just for that item. The egg soup just tastes like msg and water

Came at around 3pm on a weekend. The restaurant was empty and was greeted by servers wearing masks. We ordered the Sheng Jian Bao with shrimp, Shanghai summer noodles, green onion noodles, glutinous rice balls filled with Shanghai vegetable and pork and deep fried pork cutlet. They are famous for their sheng Jian Bao and for good reason. There isn't much soup inside but of what was inside it was very sweet which went well with the vinegar on the table. The outside skin of the bun/dumpling was crispy and unlike any other shengjianbao I've had before. It's less dumpling like and more like a deep fried mantou / bun. The meat inside was very sweet and soft. The whole shrimp inside was crisp and went well with the tenderness of the pork. The green onion noodles was a disappointment. The green onions were very chewy and hard to eat. The noodles were a bit over cooked but I liked the savouriness the dish had. I wish there was more green onion flavour as this is a green onion noodle dish. The Shanghai summer noodles, to me, was better than the green onion noodles. This dish was much smaller than the green onion noodles but the sesame flavoured sauce on top was nicely seasoned. If you aren't used to cold noodles this might not be the dish for you but if you do like it you might want to order this. The pork cutlet was another disappointment. It was crispy but very thin and dry. Would not order again. The savoury glutinous rice balls was surprisingly not bad. The Shanghai vegetable and pork filling saved this dish. The service was good - asked us for tea refill, dishes came quickly and everything was pretty organized. The food is a hit or miss. I would say the prices are on the steeper side and portions on the smaller side but for the location and the setting it's understandable. Overall would only recommend you try the pan fried dumplings. It's unique and worth a try.

Nice Shanghainese dim sum for lunch, kind of different from Hong Kong style dim sum. We had their specialty of pan fried dumplings, excellent dish, though very pricey, about $2.15 each. We also had a wonton soup and some veggies, all good quality. With about 10 tables occupied, there was only one server looking after everyone, kind of slow. We also had to wait for about 30 minutes for the pan fried dumplings to be served (I believe they are freshly made). Anyway we like the foods.

Overall this place is very authentic. The tastes reminded me of home in shanghai and how my grandpa would fetch dumplings from the downstairs street stall for breakfast. We ordered the classic dishes but I was surprised at the cost of those dishes. Itโ€™s very expensive for just some dumplings and noodles plus I did feel very thirsty afterwards likely from the msg.

Famous global restaurant known for pan fried shanghai soup dumplings. They have 3 locations, 2 in Asia and only 1 in Canada!! We had to try their shrimp and pork dumplings. we enjoyed their traditional methods of preparing and cooking. Meat and filling is carefully wrapped in a bun dough that's steamed and then pan fried in a giant hot wok/pan. One side toasted while the other remains soft. The bun later is thin. The soup and filling VERY sweet. Scallion noodles were good, but simple. So they were overpriced IMO. Served with egg soup with has a good clear ginger and pork/bone flavour. Decor is very nice. They have models of their menu items on display which is very cute. Menu is small. Slightly overpriced, ESPECIALLY when you know Richmond is just a few minutes drive away...
