Compass Notary

Very unprofessional. A staff person quoted a price on the phone to notarize an affidavit with two exhibits. After the job was done, the price was double. I mentioned that I had been quoted a different price early in the day and the response was that it didn't matter. I will never go back to Compass Notaryat all neither will I recommend them to anybody. As far as I am concerned they've lost their bearings.

I have used Alex's services at Compass Notary on multiple occasions and he has always done a wonderful job since 2015. It is very easy to set-up an appointment with him and he takes good care of everything. I also referred Alex to my clients who need help for conveyance for buying or selling the properties. A very disappointing experience using Compass Notary. We had a bit of an unusual situation taking over the tenants with the property which was owned by their parents. Our real estate agent worked hard for us to get a full months rent even though we were taking possession one week into the month. We had agreed with the sellers to do the closing date 5 days in and then they wanted 2 more days due to the holiday season which agreed to and amended the purchase contract. Alex had the signed tenancy agreement documents showing there would be a full months rent regardless of the closing date (there were other factors to this situation that we agreed to but I won't get into it here as Alex knows). Alex decided to take it upon himself and recalculate that the tenants would pay for three weeks rent instead of four. I had to contact Compass Notary and then there was a lot of "back and forth" between myself, my realtor and Compass Notary. It was like pulling teeth to get Compass Notary to understand the situation and adjust the calculations. Here we are paying Compass Notary for services and felt that they were not looking out for our best interests as their client. There was also calculations for our landlords insurance that Compass Notary forgot to follow up on with the insurance company so we had to go get (and pay for) another certified cheque from our bank as we were sent another statement of adjustment one hour before our appointment with Compass Notary causing a scramble to get to the bank to get the cheque before the appointment. Unfortunately, the sellers received the first statement of adjustments with the reduced rent for their adult children (the tenants) and paid us the amount that Alex calculated instead of the amount agreed to and signed by the tenants. This left us in a position to fight with our new tenants right off the bat by taking them to arbitration which we do not want to do so we have taken a 25% loss on our first months rent due to Alex's oversight of reading all the documents sent to him and making a unilateral decision in the best interests of other party who did not hire his company for services.
