DANGER! This week I left “Caribean Style Hair and Esthetics” in tears, with burnt-off hair and hundreds of dollars out of pocket. Earlier this week, I called Caribean Style and booked the same day for a keratin relaxing treatment with salon owner Ledisyenis. She had availability for the last-min appointment while I was in Victoria. When I arrived, she was kind and chatty as we talked about a Keratin relaxing treatment to smooth frizz and make my hair easy to blow-dry (a service that I have had in Vancouver every 6-8 months for the last few years). She assured that she had plenty of experience with all types of hair. I said "okay, I trust you" (fateful last words). I paid for the service, tipped in cash and headed back to Saltspring. Three days later I called in a panic. After washing my hair, it was so thin, the texture of straw and my scalp felt as though I had a buzz-cut (short spiky hair growth after hair is removed). Ledisyenis sent me a picture of the product she used, my heart sank. It is available at Walmart for $33.24 (see photo). I STILL gave her the benefit of the doubt and spent the time/money to get back to Victoria so she could have a chance to correct it (everyone makes mistakes, we are human). I had this sinking feeling something was wrong, so I stopped by a hair salon to have a professional opinion before I went to see Ledisyenis. The two stylists confirmed that indeed my hair had been WAY over treated. Significant hair at my crown had been burnt off at my scalp and what was left was extremely damaged. Although I was mortified at this point- if Ledisyenis had admitted to her mistake, been kind and explained how we would fix it, I would have at least respected her integrity. But that did NOT happen. Instead I was met with hostility, defensiveness and the most unprofessional behavior from a business owner I have ever experienced in my life. I sat in Ledisyenis’s chair again. She shushed my concerns, told me I would get my money back and she would do a deep-conditioning treatment (I recognized the product, so I agreed). She sprayed Olaplex treatment No.1 down my arm while she aggressively doused my hair and vented about her expertise as a hair stylist. This berating and bullying continued and I was now stuck with wet hair at her mercy. After she used the analogy- “if you get sick from a restaurant, it is your stomach’s fault unless you are dying” and calling over an embarrassed waiting client to “come look at her hair – see nothing is wrong, it's totally fine”, I knew there was no sense in trying to engage with her. By that point, I just wanted to get out of there with my refund (at the very least) but that didn’t happen either. She wanted to return my $210 plus tip MINUS $88 for the Walmart product she used to damage my hair. I was appalled. When I tried to reason with her, she then refused to return any of my money. It was made clear by the way that she handled herself, that this type interaction was not new to her. She had obviously bullied clients before (this was confirmed after I read her Facebook reviews). After I left the salon in tears, I went for two more consults at different reputable downtown salons. The stylists confirmed the damage and were appalled by what was done to my hair. I spent another $312.12 on a deep conditioning treatment, vitamins for hair growth and take-home OLAPLEX products in an attempt to salvage what is left of my hair. This horrible experience cost me a total of $592.12, two days, tears, embarrassment and destroyed my beautiful long (never colored) thick hair. I was far too trusting and not a conscious enough consumer. I blindly trusted someone because they called themselves a professional stylist. I went out of my way to give a business owner the chance to make the situation right, instead this woman took advantage of my easy-going, kind-nature. This is being reported to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and I hope that this review will help others avoid a similar horrific experience with Ledisyenis at Caribbean Style Hair and Esthetics.

A love this hair salon. At first it was only me and now my husband and 3 little girls are going regularly for hair cuts. I got also a dyed hair service and it was wonderful. Service and prices are amazing!
