No issues with GWL thus far. Surprised at the poor reviews. The coverage is great and the online app is easy to use. Reimbursement is quick and painless. I've received funds back as soon as one business day as opposed to waiting 2 weeks like with RWAM.

Recently I was really sick on a trip to Cuba, I am from Canada. My workplace has "travel assistance" coverage through Great West Life. I read through their benefit booklet before I left and felt assured that they would have the resources to help in an emergency. This is a quote from our benefits booklet. "This program provides medical assistance through a worldwide communications network that operates 24Hours a day. The Network Locates medical services and obtains Great West Life's approval of covered services, when required as a result of a medical emergency" They talk a good game, sounds pretty sophisticated, and sounds like they have resources to help. Unfortunately I was violently ill in Cuba. We are all given an emergency travel assistance card so I tried calling the number on the card. It didn't work. And they had a special number just for when you are in Cuba. There was also some fine print that mentioned you may need to dial "00" instead of 1 if you are in another country. I tried this, this also didn't work. So then I tried dialing "00" plus "1". And it worked! I got through. Now I will certainly get some help....not so. They had absolutely no medical assistance for me at all. I had to go and find my own...in Cuba....while violently ill. The customer service rep was like a cold robot. They didn't seem interested at all in providing help. I'm asking for help and all the guy wants is my address, my phone number and postal code. Another thing is, you need to call the number they give you first or they may not pay your claim. They then give improper instructions for dialing outside the country. So your claim can be denied. Highly unethical company, to the point of straight up fraudulent in my opinion. We need stronger laws in Canada for this type of behavior.

Today after over a month of waiting for a claim I made I was told that I didn’t have enough proof of my purchase for orthotics. I emailed them as well and never got any emails back. So not only did they not get back to me but you think they would have a better way of communicating like a phone call to ask you for more information. So my orthotics can’t be claimed cause I need some real proof of my back pain which they don’t even ask for. I waste $120 a month just for them to tell me my once a year $300 dollar claim can’t be approved cause they don’t have any information that they don’t even ask for till you get denied. I’m honestly very annoyed with this company at the moment. I know it’s only $300 out of pocket but why am I paying this amount for nothing.

Worst insurance, left our company without benefits for 3 weeks. Now when I try to fill a prescription they wont cover it. They are saying my stay at home wife has other benefits.

I've been waiting for over 2 months for just getting an estimate from them. They asked for more information on a claim and then didn't get around to it for another month. They are super slow and everything they do and it appears to me that they're finding ways not to pay.

Waited on hold for nearly 40 minutes. Had to give up because I needed to go back to work.

I wish I could give 0 stars, this company is terrible, soooo freaking bad. This people does not help anybody. Always sending letters that takes forever to arrive, all of them with different excuses to not return your money.. You guys are horrible disgusting and waste time of the workers.
