Healthy Kids Initiative will help up to 3,000 children and youth in the province

April 17, 2019 - Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan - Public Health Agency of Canada

Being physically active, eating healthy foods and having positive mental health are all pillars of healthy living. They play an important role in supporting the well-being of young Canadians and helping to prevent the development of chronic diseases later in life, like type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.

Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, announced that the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is investing up to $1.5 million over three years in the Alliance Wellness and Rehabilitation Inc. (Alliance Health) Healthy Kids Initiative. This is athree-year initiative to improve the activity levels, eating habits and social supports of up to 3,000 children and youth between the ages of 10 and 17 in Moose Jaw, Regina and Saskatoon in Saskatchewan.

The Healthy Kids Initiative is a 12-week program that takes a whole-of-community approach to promoting healthy living by providing daily physical activity and access to healthy eating and mental health sessions. A kinesiologist, a registered dietician and a youth social worker will supervise these sessions. Alliance Health is partnering with the YMCA to provide free access to fitness facilities. In addition, school boards and family physicians will be involved throughout the initiative to support children and youth in adopting healthier lifestyles. As part of the project, a mobile application called The Daily Difference will be developed with input from children and youth. The aim of the application is to provide self-help techniques to address depressed mood, mild anxiety and low self-esteem while improving physical activity and nutritional intake.

The initiative builds on the positive results from the previously funded Healthy Weights Initiative, which applied a similar approach to support 2,000 adults in Moose Jaw and Regina in achieving and maintaining a healthier weight. Participants from the Healthy Weights Initiative demonstrated positive changes in blood pressure, body mass index, fitness levels, depressed mood and quality of life.

so I walk in this morning to see both, seated closely together, receptionists eating and chatting with their masks pulled down to their chins. the other receptionist is seated further and busy on the phone - I have to ask them a question for them to break convo and engage with me. ridiculous.

I called at 9:00am to book a telephone appointment due to a sinus infection. I was told β€œthe doctor will call this afternoon”. I hadn’t heard anything by 4:00pm, so I called to see if there was an issue. The receptionist said β€œoh…he hasn’t called? I’ll remind him”. They never did call back. Worst part is, I live in a rural area and now can’t get an antibiotic prescription filled until Monday. I’m so disappointed in this office.

Possibly the worst experience I have ever had at a clinic. I went in for a walk in appointment for a work injury and I needed forms filled out. The doctor had no idea what form I was talking about. When he found the form, he lied to me and told me he would get the form sent in to WCB by the end of the day. I had to call 3 times to get the form sent, which they lied to me about again because I called WCB 3 days after my appointment and the form had never been sent in. The receptionist was incredibly rude to me when explaining to the point where I had to hang up the phone. Worst service and experience and I will never go back.

My family dr moved to work with Alliance Clinic two years ago. I waited 6 weeks to see my Dr, went for my app to find out it was cancelled. The receptionist said she called me on my cellphone, I showed her I don't have any call from her. She insisted that she called me, she made me feel stupid. I went home, found two messages on land line phone. They called me 50 minutes before my app to tell me is canceled. This is the worst place to get in to see your family dr. Looking for another doctor.

Left a voicemail to book an appt with Dr Adrell . Received a call back very quickly. My doctor was fully booked however they assured me that she will call me back today because of my situation. I never had a good experience from front service especially on a call but this time it was exceptional and need to be appreciated .

I've been with my doc for over 30 years. He recently moved to this clinic. I'm going to have to find a new doctor. This is the worst treatment I have ever received from any business anywhere. They are incompetent and they don't care. They routinely screw up prescriptions which is not something you want your clinic doing. They're impossible to contact and did I mention - they don't care.

Went in to get a referral, appointment went smoothly, told me they would call to set up the appointment tment. Waited 3 months, called to check in. Told it was backed up but in the works. Waited another 5 months, called again. Turns out the Dr. Who referred me as well as the Dr. I was referred to had both left this clinic and nobody felt it necessary to inform me. Reception staff was nice and helpful navigating a ridiculous situation though so kudos to them. I will not be going here again.

I want to start off by saying that my doctor is absolutely amazing and I know some of the other physicians at this clinic are also really great. The issue isn't the physicians. It is the front staff, as you will notice from all the reviews. Not all the staff at this clinic are bad - it's simply unpredictable who you will get. Every second time I call, I get an amazing person and every second time I speak to a complete incompetent. One lady picked up the phone, said hello, I said hello back and began to say "I'm a patient of..." at which point she interrupted me in the middle of the snetence and said "ok, i'll put you on hold". ??? Then, as a finale, she hung up on me. She did this 2 times in a row. I asked my doctor why she moved to this clinic and she explained that it was just a lot larger in size, allowing her to keep seeing patients during the covid distancing restrictions. I do understand this, and as mentioned, most of the doctors at this clinic are really great and moved to this clinic for legitimate reasons. However, 50% of the front staff are an absolute incompetent nightmare. Which is too bad for some of the great staff that do work here and have to read these reviews. I just don't understand why the clinic 'uppers' don't take any action and either re-train the incompetents or get rid of them. Aren't there enough identical reviews here to make you realize action is necessary?
