We hired them to do some things for a bathroom in our basement. We were quoted an estimate of costs, paid the deposit and had them come in to do the work. At no point did I sign any contract, I simply paid the amount requested as a deposit to begin the work. They arrived an hour late, whatever, no big deal, they left a huge mess in the basement, whatever no big deal. They left requested work incomplete, but still stated on the final invoice that it had be completed, again, not too big of a deal as we own a construction business ourselves and I can have my husband finish their work for them The original estimate included 8 hours of labour at $97/ hour.
They were on site in my home for 5 hours and I have timed stamped security camera footage showing when they arrive and when they leave. And they are still charging for 8 hours. It is unbelievable to me as a small business owner myself especially during a pandemic another small business would do this. It’s a horrible feeling. I try as a small business owner to support the other business in the community, not take advantage of them. The owner told me on the phone that “it was a rush job because they wanted to get out of their faster to another job.” It’s not my fault they were not scheduled properly. I really feel like we didn’t matter as customers. I can honestly say I would never charge and have never charged for hours in labour that were not actually preformed. So unethical. Awful experience
