Phenomenal experience as a last minute dinner choice. The host was accommodating being fully booked and in current times of limiting space however she got us in. Gabby our server was charming, gracious and willing to help thru the menu items and choices. Meal was superb and served quickly following drink choices. Everything spot on. Dinner for 2 a $100 affair with basic drink choices. Oh yeah, just as a word of caution, this place can get loud as the hostess tends to announce new guests with great zeal of shouts thru the restaurant which can startle unsuspecting patrons :)

Great atmosphere, grilled meats, drinks and music. We came for dinner on a Friday, busy but we got lucky finding a table. Great selection of grilled meats, we got different types of pork, beef, chicken and fish. Not many veggies to choose from. Cocktails were delicious - we got Cassis Grapefruit and Lychee Grapefruit. They were playing late 90s- early 2000s r&b/hiphop so you could dance while eating :)

Although I wouldn't consider myself picky, there are definitely certain tastes I enjoy more than other. Perhaps above all other foods, I am a lover of the flavor imparted when grilling over charcoal. As such, upon learning of Zakkushi's binchotan grilled specialties from my girlfriend, we were quick to frequent the restaurant on a recent visit to Toronto. We managed to find a table around 9pm at the Queen location, and upon entering the restaurant were greeted with a lively atmosphere full of eating and drinking. We were quick to order a round of drinks and a multitude of skewers from the menu, and after a short wait they arrived. I enjoyed certain skewers more than others, and found a mushroom, chicken thigh and grilled rice ball to be the highlights of my meal. Other skewers didn't dissapoint, but weren't necessarily excellent either. After finishing my first drink, I ordered one of the new specials, a yuzu tequila lemonade. It was fantastic, with the alcohol pairing well with the acidity of the agrume and just the right amount of sweetness. To pair with my drink, I also opted for the wagyu skewer, and it arrived with a side of scallions and garlic. Of all the meats, the wagyu was the inferior option, with a weird chewy texture and not particularly tasty. After being asked for our thoughts on the skewer, our server was kind enough to provide us with another skewer free of charge, as well as taking the price off the final bill. Unfortunately, even at the second time of asking the texture remained the same, and my personal advice would be to avoid the premium cut when visiting. Overall, Zakkushi has an alluring mixture of tasty, skewered meats and a good selection of drinks that would make for a great evening spent eating and drinking.

Yuzu soda - beautiful yuzu aroma and refreshing. Wish it had slightly stronger yuzu taste though Premium skewer set - unfortunately all the meat was not seasoned so it didn't taste like anything. The Wagyu meatball was too salty. Takoyaki - this was yummy. Mushroom skewer - comes with one mushroom cut in half. Grilled to perfection but only one mushroom? C'mon. Tofu skewer - needs seasoning. Mochi skewer - needs some sort of sauce Overall, this place isnt great value. It's a great vibe and staff are nice but very disappointed because none of the skewers really had the charcoal flavor I was looking for and it as also not seasoned. Wouldn't return.

Had a lot of fun at this place. Drink some beer and started ordering like its ayce. The price was reasonable for the quality. I highly recommend premium platter and the wagyu balls and free range chicken skewer. Some menu items comes in sea salt variant and i would recommend trying some of that because teriyaki sauce will make everything taste similar to teriyaki sauce.

Would Return. Would recommend. First - they use charcoal to prepare their skewers, giving all of them an amazing smokey aroma and the high heat ensures that there's a good amount of char, without making your meat dry. Good tap. Vibes are good, you'll have a great food experience here.

Raw and classic Japanese IZAKAYA vibe, had monk fish liver, tako wasabi, skewer platter, O den, karaage, tofu & eggplant. Every dish was good except the skewer was so so and it was serve warm, and the flavour was not so outstanding as it is a IZAKAYA. Also should update sake menu if item were out of stock or inform the customer in advance so we don’t order the out of stock item for few times .Other then that service was amazing, we had a great time there

This is one of the Best Japanese skewers place in town. I will give it 4.7 out of 5.0, compare to the other franchise at Carlton only 4.3. for the following reasons. The seating are much roomy and comfortable. Food taste better and more juicy comparatively. Their karaage chicken is a MUST try. Wagyu beef is great. Service is excellent.
