★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice well defined trail. Decent leg burner without a lot of elevation and great views.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful, moderate winter hike. Spikes were great to have. Horribly windy by the lake with tiny ice pellets being blown into my face and almost knocking me over, but once you reach the tree line, it’s great. Breathtaking views from the top. Went up to the summit past the helicopter pad. Loved it!
*I was surrounded by birds (grey jays?) the minute I pulled out a rice cake!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Jewell Pass via Prairie View Trail
It was a beautiful and sunny day which made it perfect and more enjoyable.
Beautiful view all the way to the fire lookout.
The Jewell part was very mudy and slushy.
Poles and spikes is recommended.
Arrived at 7:30 am and there were already cars.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Yates Mountain via Prairie View Trail is a pretty easy hike for the first few kilometres. The trail is wide and is not very steep. The incline is slow and steady. Once you get closer to the lookout the trail becomes a little steeper and more technical. Hiking boots are recommended, and poles if you are not a avid hiker. We were able to hike the entire trail no problem. Once you reach the lookout you will need to find the trail to Yates mountain summit. The trail is not maintained but is easy to find. Quite a few people were at the top when we summited. This part of the trail was steeper and rockier. One side of the trail overlooked a cliff but was set back far enough from the edge. The top of this hike has a fire watch tower, picnic tables and amazing views of the valley, Rocky Mountains, and the prairies. The hike is well worth it!
Edit: The prairie view trail is a little hard to find at first. Follow the wide trail on the dam until it enters trees. You will find a small trail sign on the right side of the trail. No cell service for the first part of the hike.
