Great hike through the woods. Not exposed to the elements. The last 2km to the Barrier Lake lookout are a little monotonous and tiring. Not a whole lot to look at on the way up. The views from the lookout and the fire tower are incredible. Excellent views of Barrier Lake and Mt. Baldy. The incline is steady an constant, good training trail

The hike was about 5 km with the peak for this view at an elevation of 1500 ft. It is worth it at the top though because it was breathtaking.

Start this hike at the Prairie View Trail Parking area. It rewards you with a beautiful breathtaking view of Mount Baldy and Barrier Lake.

Very good hike to the top for some great views. Good for mountain biking. Need to carry your bike for the last few bit of the hike.

Prairie view trail to jewel pass. Start from prairie view trail parking, you can loop hiking. 15km and took 5hrs 30 minutes - middle of October. Snow and ice made difficult from view point to jewel pass. Parking lot is small and busy.

Nice way up on the trail. We have a good weather and the view was fantastic. There is no scrambling, just you are going up to see the beautiful view of the Barrier lake. Approx. 11 km from parking up and back down. it took us 2 and half hours. Great for dogs or for kids.

The Barrier Lake parking lot fills up early but there are quite a few spaces. The walk from the parking lot to the trail head is several kilometres and exposed. Prairie View trail is easy by mountain standards, a good way to start the season or push yourself if you’re a beginner. That also makes it a busy trail. Most people go to the lookout and back rather than continuing on to make a loop with Jewel Pass. The trail is wide, a gentle incline by mountain standards, and accessible during the winter. Expect mud and ice during the shoulder seasons, and snow near the top. There are two lookout spots. The one at lower elevation is quite accessible and perfectly lovely as its own destination. There one at the top is a boulder section and the trail continues down from there. The rest of the trail is a classic forest hike, narrow and treed in, with a very gentle decline. A lovely walk to meet up with Jewell Pass.
