profit over care , it's unfortunate that this clinic chooses profit over care understanding and compassion . my dog needs meds for his heart and they won't continue his meds unless I bring him in again and pay for appointment . I cannot afford both the price of his meds and the appointment . I asked if they would please give me a few months till I could afford both , the answer was no . I have not seen my own dr . for a year and a half but I still get my meds , there is no difference we are both patients and they are both dr.s . when I first visited clinic about four years ago they seemed to care about the animals they were treating . now you are rushed in and out and it's all about the money . the reason that the dr . became a vet (the love and care) has obviously been lost along the way . maybe she might think about bringing another vet on board so clients get the time and care they are paying for and deserve . again profit over care . their care and attitude toward animals and their owners is disappointing by any standards . all in the name of profit , so sad .

My Chihuahua/Rat Terrier dog Dolby is fearful of needless. However, doctor managed to give him 2 vaccines and prescribed meds, so we will be back again on Saturday for examination + another vaccine. I hope meds will help him overcome fear of needless. Unfortunately, I was deeply embarrassed by my dogs behaviour, he snapped on doctor during vaccine administration and bit doctor Childs on her hand. Please accept my apologies Dr Childs. I'll make sure in the future dog takes anti-anxiety meds as prescribed for 2 days and 2 hours before each vet visit. I also want to provide 5 star rating and compliment entire staff @ West End Veterinary Clinic for being professional, kind and understanding.

My pets are not longer patients at this clinic, and haven't been for more than a year. I've switched vets a while ago but I feel obligated to write this review when I've heard from someone else that they've had the same issues that I did recently. I found the staff at this clinic quite friendly and professional in handling the animals. The examination technique seemed quite friendly and the staff knew how to approach a little scared kitty. The location is convenient and I was able to get an appointment without much waiting. They always pick up the phone and get back to you in a timely manner. Those are the pros. The cons: $$$$$$. They charge for as many tests, procedures and meds as they can, and a lot of times they don't tell you in advance that certain things are being done to the pet (fluids, IV antibiotics, pain controls meds). I'm a healthcare worker. My cat had fresh blood in her stool. Fresh blood=bleeding in lower digestive tract. The vet did an x-ray and told me she is suspecting pancreatitis? Again, I am not a vet, but anyone would know that pancreas is all the way up in the GI tract. Even if she had a bleeding in her pancreas, it would have been digested, dark tarry stool or more likely she would have vomited blood. The vet gave us Cerenia, and said it is for the pancreatitis when I objected to taking it. Cerenia is for vomiting as far as I can tell, and maybe for pain. Again, I am not a vet. But you don't need to be a vet to understand GI bleeding, any Dr. would do. I brought up these concerns at least twice during the appointment, and one other time on a phone call. Their reply was quite aggressive and almost as if they were upset that you would even ask questions? During the last appt, I was pretty much shoved out of the x-ray room and told to come back on a particular date for an ultrasound. I took my cat to another vet. The cat needed two rounds of oral pills (antibiotics), and her bleeding cleared. Another vet was able to do this with a $70 appt charge plus pills, didn't even look at the x-ray or requested an ultrasound. Last time I counted, we had over $1000 bills for the cat at West End Clinic. And that's just ONE of the cats. In summary, they are friendly and approachable when you go there initially and you are cooperating but as soon as you start asking questions or express concerns about the bills or the procedures, the vet gets quite hostile. They would definitely try to shove as many tests and procedures as they can in the bill. Don't get me wrong, I totally agree about getting a comprehensive and holistic examination done, which seems to be the reply to main comments about $$$ down below. But if I go to see my doctor for acid reflux, how likely it is that my diet needs to be adjusted whereas how likely it is that I have esophagus cancer? All I'm saying is that comprehensive does not equal running all the possible tests and draining the resources and the pet owner.

We've had nothing but wonderful experiences with Dr. Childs and the team at West End Vet. We've been bringing our puppy here since we brought her home and have received nothing but the best care. When our pup had a health scare, they were able to squeeze her in right at the end of the day to ensure we didn't have an emergency on our hands. That piece of mind is priceless. We've also had nothing but great experiences' with all front desk staff and the vet techs, especially with Danielle who is always so incredibly patient and loving with our puppy. Thank you so much West End Vet team, we know we're in good hands!

Place has become a cash grab since child’s took over. 50$ for a nail trim is an absolute joke. They will also insist on certain things that are not necessary or related to why you are there. Don’t know one persons who Brings the animal there unless it is an emergency. If you want to spend 2x more than anywhere else in the city, this is where you will want to go.

sadly, there were a few occasions where i, like many of the below reviewers, was upsold on treatments my pets didn't need . $40 for wet wipes for example. biggest red flag was - i was told my dog has giardia and when i submitted the receipt to my insurance company , insurance asked me to provide the lab notes ( that confirm my pet has giardia). when i called the office they told me they didnt have any lab notes....you're not given a receipt by the front staff unless you ask for one , they just hand you a debit machine with an amount to pay. sadly, i dont think i'll be returning , but dr childs seemed very knowledgeable so if you decide to visit this clinic, make sure you ask a LOT of questions and do not pay for anything that you didnt discuss the price of

Most recently my furbaby (cat) had a continual eye infection which I had taken her to another vet before for treatment. The previous vet charged me 300 for the visit and another 300 for medications and when I spilled one a 40$ renewal fee, none of that worked so I was looking for some where to give a 2nd look at my little girl. I booked an appointment with the west end clinic and was very impressed with their response time and money was a bit tight so I told them I had a specific budget for this visit but would come again if required. The staff all ensured me that they would do their best to remain within budget which they pretty much did. When the exam was done they reviewed the invoice with me to see what could be removed in order to reduce the bill. When with the medication the bill was a bit above my limit for the visit the doctor was quite kind in allowing me since I live in the area to come by later to pay the amount over by available funds for that day. Just this one act of kindness in ensuring my little lady gets the best vet care possible will ensure I go there with her always. Especially since I have NEVER heard of this before in my entire pet care life. I have however read on many sites that your pet will not be released until payment is done in full. So in reading the other reviews about being expensive, I can say that out of the 3 vet visits my cat has done in the last 2 years this location was by far the least expensive of them all abs only did what was required to ensure my pets health.
