I picked this place because it was the cheapest, and it lived up to its price. However, unlike some reviews, I found the hostel to be clean and relatively well kept. It has funky art on common walls and a cool deck in the back. My partner and I stayed here one night in a "small double room". It was clean and warm. The bathroom was clean and had hot water. The kitchen was dark, and a little smelly but it got the job done. The kind old Asian owner lady is nice and I think somewhat charitable. There were several individuals who I thought might be otherwise homeless if they weren't staying there. There were also a few other international backpackers staying in the dorm. If you want a cheap place to sleep and cook, I'd recommend it. If you want to meet other travellers and party and willing to pay only a little bit more, go to Ocean Island or HI.

This β€šhostelβ€˜ deserves 0 stars. But is it really a hostel or more so a shelter? Very weird vibe within the building with mostly elderly men staying there as well as from what it looks like street workers using the accommodation too. Bathrooms are filthy and dirty while there’s only 1 shower per floor and a separate toilet. The positive reviews are definitely not from travelers but people who are long term living in there and call it home, because as I said.. it’s a shelter after all. The building is run down, gross, stains all over the walls inside the room and the bathroom. This place shouldn’t even be able to sell their rooms online. STAY AWAY and trust the negative reviews!

Worst place I have ever stayed!! Booked a week here and only lasted one night. Whole hostel is filthy. Rude owner! Will not let you pay with credit card because β€œit costs her to much” will make you go get cash. Uncomfortable feeling coming from the hostel as it is quiet during the day but strange noises all night. Uncomfortable beds. Felt unsafe. Kitchen was the worst I have ever seen in a hostel. Two bathrooms in whole hostel, which look like they have never been cleaned. %100 would not recommend. Should not be called a hostel either as it is far from that.Plenty off other accomodation to choose from, listen to the reviews and don’t stay here.

Rooms and bathrooms was clean, showers nice. Make sure if you have a vehicle to book parking as they only have one spot available besides that its street parking.

I just stayed four nights at the turtle Hostel and I had a fine time. I want to address many of the complaints that I read before I stayed here, so you don't end up falling into the same pitfalls. The messy bathrooms described have nothing to do with the staff, and everything to do with the other guests staying at the time that the reviews were posted. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and all of my concerns were addressed quickly and professionally. Sue, the owner, is a kind person. She was very polite and helpful to me. The prices on the hostel's website and brochures have not been updated. This is why people are confused and THINK they are being overcharged. Sue would update the website and the brochures if she had the means. These discrepancies are an honest mistake. For 70 dollars a night and a private room, I definitely left feeling like I got my money's worth. The main floor has at least one private room, two shared rooms, a communal kitchen, communal foodstuffs, a fridge, and an outdoor sitting area. The second floor has many private rooms, a fridge, two bathrooms (one with a shower) and a beautiful balcony with tables and chairs. If you want a room with a window, you can request it before your booking. There are rooms large enough for couples, but make sure to specify what you need beforehand. The area outside can get quite noisy, especially on weekends. If you want a perfectly quiet space, book somewhere else. Otherwise, this is a cost effective way to find housing in the heart of Victoria :-)

Fantastic little place, right downtown, absolutely loved our stay. It was very clean, and Dave and Ray went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great. Thank you so much!

Very affordable and great for the price. Fantastic location, even if it seems a little scary at first. Stayed here 6 nights near Christmas with my wife and we enjoyed it very much. Appreciated: - clean bathrooms, very good upstairs shower - hostess Sue was helpful w sightseeing ideas; was understanding when we thought we lost our room key & offered a discount to replace it (didn't need to after all, found the key) - near to Downtown & many restaurants - chance to store leftovers & save groceries If you're interested in saving money while visiting Victoria, I'd suggest Turtle Hostel. The simple and clean room and communal kitchen are a great value.

Totally fine if you keep your expectations reasonable for $30. Cleanliness-wise, there was some old take out food in our room, a couple of empty bottles, and hairs in the shower but we didn’t mind that much since we just needed a place to sleep. The two guys working there were very nice and friendly and the place had student residence/communal vibes. I was a little scared off by the rating but it was ok for a hostel.
