From the first class I tried I was impressed by the quality of teaching and training available here. 10 years later I'm still here and still learning.

I've been training at this dojo for over 6 years. Having visited multiple other dojos across North America (big and small), I can say that some of the finest aikido instructions are available here. Definitely recommend it to both beginners and advanced practitioners.

I am lucky that Zimmerman sensei and his students can visit South and Central America several times a year. In Venezuela particularly through invitation from our instructors in Maracay and other cities, we can have the opportunity for a closer training with Zimmerman sensei. These experiences are important for the constant growth, technically and in other ways, of the Aikido community in Venezuela.ο»Ώ

Really great place and really powerful teaching by sensei. This is not one of those average dojo places to go. The art of aikido takes years if not eternity to perfect and sensei is very generous to explain subtlety of every move of this beautiful art. Sensei's detail explanation just amazes me: from physics stand point he literally dissects details of the moves in such a way that no other Shihans I've trained with could do this. Weapons class is another example, whether you take bokken or jo, you'll be absolutely blown away the practical method our Sensei uses which I consider is unique that no other dojos can offer.

I have been practicing for over a year at Toronto Aikikai, after 14 years of practice in Montreal. Great dojo and great instructor. Aikido is quite different than most martial arts. It is non-competitive and mostly defensive in focus, which is what drew me to it in the first place. The objective is to neutralize the aggression, while remaining in a non-aggressive mental and physical posture. You practice with others in a collaborative way, learning from advanced and beginner students, reaching and surpassing your physical and mental limits. I particularly enjoy the dedicated weapons classes (jo and bokken), as so very few dojos have them and Sensei Zimmermann is among the very best out there. In short, a great dojo with a long history and an international reputation.

I've been training at Toronto Aikikai for over 20 years. Excellent place and atmosphere. As a woman, I've found Aikido very good to keep me in shape, strong and flexible. Easy access by subway, and there are many classes per week with different focus. Wonderful guidance from Robert Zimmermann, 7th Dan Shihan. Recommended!

Forever grateful for my learning and experiences here. Not only did I gain valuable insight about myself and others, but I gained practical abilities that kept me safe for 14 years as a Correctional Officer. Pleased to see Toronto Aikikai is still going strong. Wishing all the best to current and former students.
