Hours of Operation
The main terminal building hours of operation are based on current flight schedules.
- Thunder Bay International Airport's terminal building is open to the public at 3:30am
- For arriving passengers, there is a Hotel Directory board beside the inbounce baggage carousels, which aids travellers with connecting to some of the nearby hotels, and their shuttle services, if applicable.
- Passengers departing on winter vacation charters (Air Transat, Sunwing, WestJet Vacations) are advised to arrive 2 hours prior to departure.
- Most carriers close their check-in counters 45 minutes prior to departure.
The Thunder Bay International Airports Authority Administration office hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8:30AM to 4:30PM.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Security relatively fast, not much inside for food. Having spent a 12 hr delay here i can say the charging station sucks, half the compartments don't recognize your phone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small airport, super efficient and everyone was friendly. The cards to carry you luggage are free (the states it's $5us). Food and gates up stairs luggage and check in on the first floor. Everything was super easy to find ,signage was proper and everything worked. Not crowded and crazy like most big airports. I like ten airport and the area. The fishing was great and in August the weather was phenomenal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Upon leaving the airplane I could not find the exit to get to baggage claim, as it was not at all marked. After getting my bags loaded onto a cart, I could not get to the rental car parking because the walkways were not cleaned amd the cart would not roll over all the snow. It was a terrible experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The airport is great, however, Westjet is the company that made the experience worse. My luggage did not make it on my connecting flight. But get this... my connecting flight was the exact same plane I arrived on.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am a local Thunder Bayer. I understand alot of things, I appricate local content at airport. But Jesus, the food is expensive! I spend 70$ on sandwiches while my flight was delayed all day for me and my partner. Maybe lower the rent fees? for the vendors so stranded passangers don't need to pay double the price for food? Fix your 110 v under the seats? So we can charge our phones properly? Offer some more comfortable siting area? I sat there for 9 hours. It was a uncomfortable experience and no were to conduct business while I had no choice but to wait. If I give 4 stars no one will care about my comment. 5 stars isnt right because of food prices. It is Due to rental fees. Or atleast that's what the public thinks. Food was always expensive at the airport. But no hot food either. After 9 hours a hot food meal be nice. If someone takes note of my review I'd change to 4 stars. But I do expect a little better from this airport before I'd give a honest 5.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great airport that has decent parking and it is very easy to get around in. The only down side would be the lack of food and drink options. Other than that it is a great airport. I find the people that work there to be very friendly. It is the hub for the northwest region of Ontario.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Always a good experience at YQT. Even with the flight delay, I had decent space and fast enough internet to do my zoom meeting.
Food and coffee options are good, although this trip there wasn’t as many in stock options as usual but my sandwich did taste fantastic!
