About The Staff House B&B and Moai Yoga Studio

Why we chose the hamlet of Seven Sister Falls for the home of the Staff House B&B and Moai Yoga Studio:

We found our dream home back in 2008 when Hydro decided to sell off the hydro townsite homes that were once the homes of the hydro dam employees. It wasn’t, however, one of the quaint, tidy little homes that formed the area known as the Seven Sisters Townsite. My husband, Rick, had his eyes on something bigger…the former hydro staff house, a 5700 square foot charming century old home. A diamond in the rough.

Rick purchased this historically rich home with the dream of opening a bed and breakfast in this beautiful area known as Eastman. The house is situated on the Winnipeg River plain between the fantastic Whiteshell Park and the lovely rolling farmland of the R.M. of Whitemouth. It wasn’t long before I shared his vision. We were city dwellers but we both loved nature and outdoor adventure. We had found our perfect fit, a home where our backyard was our playground. A simpler life uncluttered with the trappings of city life.

We’ve slowed down. Infusing our lives with conscious living practises…we now grow our own food and bake our own bread. We also believe in the profound healing power of blending physical activity and mindfulness practises with time spent in nature. For this Seven Sisters was a dream come true.

The TransCanada Trail is right out the front door, while beautiful trails are right out the back door where we can walk, ski or cycle. The cooling waters of Natalie Lake make a thunderous roar as they drop 20 meters over the spillway by the hydro dam. All this within our community. Cycling, fishing, hunting, boating and much more, it is all here. Plus, this area at the forks of the Winnipeg and Whitemouth Rivers is sacred to many who cherish our native history.

Rick and I enthusiastically went to work putting the skills that we had acquired in our careers towards our dream of living a more impassioned and purposeful life. Rick, a retired guidance counsellor, woodwork instructor and avid photographer, myself, a trained pastry chef, baker and yoga instructor, together we would transform this home into a bed and breakfast with wellness retreat/yoga studio. We wanted a place where people could come to unplug from the modern world, relax, spend some time in nature and reconnect to what is real.

The yoga studio has been operating since September, 2016 and the bed and breakfast will be in operation in the spring of 2017. We have come to view our yoga students and neighbours as friends. Rick and I aspire to share our home and yoga studio with others so that they too can experience the serenity and deep connection to nature that surrounds us here in the hamlet of Seven Sisters Falls.

Just spent a night after coming up to check out some cool x country ski trails that you can access right from their back yard. What a surprise! It was like our own private ski trail. Owners Fran and Rick made sure the trail was groomed as it had just snowed. Accommodations were top shelf with a heated floor in our bathroom. Thanks guys!

We stayed at the Staff House with family visiting from the UK and occupied two of the rooms. The house and rooms were stunning and so comfortable. We only met Rick as his partner Fran was away but found him such a warm helpful person, so willing to share the history of the house and the area. And breakfast was amazing! Some of the highlights include homemade sourdough bread and wild blueberries they had picked in the nearby park. Great coffee, too. And Fran had made a cake for our arrival that was absolutely delicious. Their home is filled with lovely antiques, items from Rick and Fran's travels, interesting art, and many examples of Rick's photography. It's clear that this B and B is a labour of love for them. We have stayed in a lot of B and B's in several countries and I've never had a better experience. There was a lot to do in the area as well, including visits to the Seven Sisters and Pinawa Dams and tubing down the Pinawa Channel. If you can stay here - DO!

Had a lovely time. Rick and Fran are very helpful and welcoming and encourage you to see the sights in the area. We liked that it was close to the Whiteshell as well. Rooms were great and so was breakfast. Fran even catered to my gluten free requirements and made cookies and banana muffins for me.

Looking for a close by birthday gift getaway in this time of "stay vacations", I came across "The Staff House" in the village of Seven Sisters. What a find! We have stayed in many B&Bs all over the world and I can honestly say that this is one of the best. The house is magnificent, lovingly remodeled, bright and airy, with antique treasures scattered throughout. The Willow Room was perfect for us, large and beautifully appointed, sparklingly clean, complete with the cadillac of showers! It was great fun to explore the surrounding area, hiking the trails, picnicking by the waterfall, gazing in wonder at the powerful dam, and experiencing the sacredness of the petrograghs of Bannock Point. The breakfasts were beautifully presented from the delicious coffee, the yogurt topped fresh fruit bowls, the homemade sourdough toast, to the main course...what to choose, what to choose! Thank you Rick and Fran for your generous hospitality. The Staff House is a true gem. Judy and Merna

Hosts, Fran and Rick are so very gracious and hospitable. Had an awesome stay, two nights, at their charming B&B. It is beautiful, spacious and immaculate. Close to amazing trails , which we walked to check out the dam. The breakfasts, made to order, were filling and delicious. Our yoga session was terrific. Fran is a very knowledgeable instructor. Overall a wonderful time spent with my two close friends! I would love to come back in the wintertime too!!!

It was such a wonderful experience to stay at the Staff House BNB during this long weekend. The house was not only welcoming, but also stunning. Beautiful hardwood floors, personal touches, and the claw foot tub were what drew me in to book our stay. Meeting Rick and Fran, were the icing on the cake. Such warm people, who clearly love what they're doing, and is felt throughout the experience of the BNB. The breakfasts were delicious and Frans specially made Sour Dough bread toast was the highlight of my mornings! Chef Rick spared no efforts in his not only tasty breakfasts, but beautiful presentation. I really can't say enough about your kindness and consideration during our visit, it made our little get away so much more than we needed! Thank you again for your time and hospitality! We look forward to visiting again soon! -Marcia and John

Such a wonderful place. More like a really nice hotel since each room has its own luxury bathroom and the rooms are very comfortable. It is so nicely decorated throughout and the common rooms are extremely comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious! The hosts are so friendly, they make you feel like family. I will be making this a regular getaway.
