About The Salvation Army Thrift Store

We are celebrating International Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3rd by permanently eliminating plastic checkout bags in our stores as of that date.

Environmental stewardship is important to everything we do at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in our mission to help build stronger, greener communities alongside our Guests and Donors, and this policy is another way that we are living that mission. We encourage you to bring your own reusable bags with you to shop, or you can choose to purchase one of our own Refresh, Recycle, Restyle reusable eco bags for $1.99.

In Canada, up to 15 billion plastic bags are used every year. Eliminating single-use plastics like these are an important step towards a circular economy – something that we are proud to play an important role in as one of Canada’s largest textile recyclers.

“Although the federal government’s announced national ban on single-use plastic items, including plastic bags, is not yet in effect, we are proud to be taking initiative and leading the way in our role as environmental stewards,” says Ted Troughton, Managing Director of The Salvation Army Thrift Store. “We look forward to continue making thrifting even greener alongside our guests and donors.

I like stopping in to the Thrift Store every so often, not because I specifically NEED an item, but more often to shop, and see what's there. Prices are always very fair, and most items are gently used, rather than in tatters. Lots of clothing items for adults and kids. Lots of kitchen and housewares. You have to watch out for the electronics items thought, and remember why someone had donated them in the first place. The item may be missing a remote, or operate less than it did when it was new, so give those things a good look-over. Even better is knowing that when you donate good quality, still fully usable items, they can be purchased by someone else at a very affordable price.

Easy, smooth, a room to breathe. my shoulders relaxed when i walked through. Staff busy wiping talking with custemers. You can here the ease of quiet conversing the odd chuckle and the comfort building announcement reminding us to keep our social distance Simple, clean, safe when i go over my senses while there.. As an ex-fulltime thrift store employee of 5 years with a little more than a touch of OCD (hehe) i was pleasantly surprised at the surprizes in organizing! Although ive not worked for pay: ive set up and closed down houses with a wide variety of persons, these workers show their interest, care, thoughtful insights as well as their creativity in the subtle placements of items. A treat for a the one who expects perfection Here the imperfections are a smile as you see the connection. Thank you All at Salvation Army Thrift Store on Mcphillips across from Northgate. I get the prices after this expΓ©rience. I find well trained employees, clean and safe environment, life in the business bring the dollars out to hand over to the much deserving staff with no qualms.

I stopped for the first time a few weeks ago. The amount of items to buy was plentiful. The staff were very friendly and polite. I purchased a few things. I will definitely return if I am in the area. They have great deals on kitchen items.I will be checking out the Nairn store in the near future.
