About The Great Canadian Dollar Store
Where it all began.
Founded in 1993 by Bud and Vivian Walker, the Great Canadian Dollar Store began with a vision: to introduce Canadians to a different dollar store, one with friendly, helpful staff and extreme value. After 22 years expanding the business, the Walkers sold the company to Kevin Kane in 2015.
A franchise member since 1997, and owner of 50 Great Canadian Dollar Stores across Atlantic Canada, Kane was the obvious choice to succeed the Walkers with years of hands-on experience. Today, he continues in the original vision and passion of the Walkers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good quality products at a great price. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the prices can be a bit higher than your typical dollar store. But then again the products might be a little better than what you'd expect. Great place to buy gifts for kids and adults too. They sell anything from TY beanie babies and quality phone cords to bedding, outdoor wear and Bibles plus anything in between! Over all I am very impressed with this store.

When I wanted special puzzles for my mil...the manager helped me get them, they go above send beyond for their customers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Normal for a dollar store if you like cheap items. However, the owner treats the female employees poorly, doesn't give them out their pay stubs but does to the guys. Business owners like this don't deserve the business. This seems to be typical for the area, though. Glad I moved.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bought a set of $35 sheets and grabbed the wrong color. Brought them back to exchange for a different color the next day and they refused to even exchange the sheet set even thought the package had not even been opened. They say it’s store policy but there should be some reasonable exchange policies. I can understand if the package is opened but if it’s clearly untouched there is no reason to not do an exchange.
Update: we tried again to exchange after the response form owner and were able to get it done. I appreciate the quick response and resolution. Hopefully the staff are better informed as to policy in the future. Am happy to keep supporting this local business.
