About The Grand

The historic GRAND theatre has spanned over a century as a hub for Calgary’s art, culture and political communities. Built in 1912, The Lougheed block has seen the city’s landscape evolve and we are proud to call this iconic structure our home.

We welcome companies, collectives and individuals to come together and learn from one another, building shared meaning and culture for our city.

The GRAND is a not-for-profit organization (Charitable Registration: 134483981 RR0001). Since 2006, the theatre has been a centre for creation and presentation of contemporary performance from Calgary, Canada, and around the world.

Today, the GRAND theatre houses a variety of event spaces perfect for a unique wedding, private event, corporate party or presentation, as well as arts, culture, performance and theatre events. With four distinct spaces to choose from, studios, dressing rooms and, of course, the versatile theatre are available to rent for a variety of purposes and events.

Great venue for music, comedy, get a slightly over priced drink in a great space. The shows are intimate and the views are great from all seats. Good washrooms too

What kind of world do we live in that we can openly virtue signal about making our space "Anti-oppressive and inclusive place for all" while still, against ALL public health guidelines, discriminate against 20% of Canadians by continuing to enforce vaccine mandates? Never in history has discriminating against ANY group of people, for ANY reason aged well, and I hope the grand is willing to accept that this is the path in history they are choosing to take. I personally know two actors that frequently had roles in plays at the grand who are now not even allowed to step foot in the building. My wife and I frequently attended plays and shows but are sickened by the oppressive, un-inclusive place the grand is continuing to promote and will not return. A "grand" mistake that will not age well over time. Stop division. Stop segregation. Allow ALL theatre lovers to return to their passion. There are people suffering mentally due to these unjust restrictions that fly in the face of current public health orders. You should be ashamed.

We had the best dinner here today. It was so good. The beef was super tender and the barely with beets and broccoli was so good. Finished off with fry bread. After dinner we got to see the Treaty 7 Production of ", The Dark Arts". It kept my interest and really caputured the reality of our indigenous brothers who are incarcerated. It really struck a chord close to home.
