Built in 1939, The Convent was a high school operated by The Sisters of Assumption. After closing, the building stood vacant for 18 years until discovered by Robert Ducan during a 1996 summer vacation visit to Val Marie.

The Convent is an ideal place to stay while exploring Canada’s Grasslands National Park. The Park is a land of prehistoric badlands, lush coulees, and broad river valleys sweeping to distant horizons. It is the only place in Canada where colonies of black-tailed prairie dogs still exist in their native habitat. Grasslands Park and surrounding area are wonderful places to view Plains Indians archaeological sites, featuring buffalo jumps, teepee rings, medicine wheels, and ancient village ruins.

S	Suzanne de Montigny on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Loved my time here. So peaceful. My room was beautiful and the scenery awe inspiring. And the breakfast? Very delicious and so filling I didn't have to have lunch that day. The people who run the place are lovely too. I would love to go back. Maybe someday.

The owners are extremely friendly and it's a beautiful area. Also relatively affordable. They need a new mattress in room number 1 though, with two people in the bed I was awake all night.

Large well-lit rooms with wooden floors, great breakfast served in what was once a class room complete with wall to wall black board for your creative side. Shared bathroom on each floor. Single shower in the basement.

Most rooms are small but comfortable and the library and chapel are available if you need to spread out. Hosts are friendly and the included breakfast is good.

We were stranded because of an unexpected spring snow storm and had no where to stay. The owner not only gave us the nicest room, but we also got a really great deal! There were a large amount of common spaces that included a tv with Netflix, a bunch of books and comfortable couches.

It is a ideal place to stay if you like the adventures in Grassland national park. Every night includes a decent breakfast to start your day. The people that work in the hotel are friendly and they make your stay have a family environment.

The bathrooms were not attached to the room but still were extremely nice and clean. Better than I expected! The Breakfast was awesome and the owners were super nice. 5/5

Not only was the location beautiful, very close to Grasslands National Park, but the owner went above an beyond to make us feel so welcome. They were so accommodating and helpful. We got a flat tire and they loaned us their pump, called the mechanic, and even offered us a free night's stay because we had lost most of our day. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! The food was great! The architect and interior is beautiful and original to the building. There is a non-denominational chapel upstairs which is so calm and peaceful. Everything about this place was a 10/10!
