We arrived at this restaurant at 7:15 pm on August 13 (Friday) and found that their door was half closed and chained up. Both the light and the opening sign were still on so we knocked on the door for 2 minutes and shouted too but received no response at all. We called the restaurant too but nobody picked up. This is beyond my understanding. On Google the close time is 8 pm. I’m willing to come back and edit my review if I could ever eat there and receive a reasonable explanation.

Not too many places have bun cha (grilled pork with dipping noodles) on the menu so when a friend recommended here I jumped on the chance to try it. Flavours were good, I especially liked the fattier pieces of pork. Unfortunately, mine didn’t come with a meat patty (according to my friend, hers came with some when she went) which is usually the best part! Ah well… Mine also came with a Hanoi spring roll which was really delicious. I also tried the beef ball pho – the flavour of the broth was also good. Good place to get some legit Northern and Southern style Vietnamese food. The menu doesn’t offer as many options as other places. It’s family-run and the interior is no-fuss. I’d come back for the bun cha.

Highly recommend the "bun thit nuong" (grilled pork with vermicelli) here. I got the one with cha la lot (beef wrapped in betel leaf) and cha nem (spring roll). Their bun thit nuong is unlike other ones in Vancouver because this is the Northern Vietnamese (Hanoi) style.

So good!!! Authentic northern vietnamese food. My northern father loved the Bun thit nuong cha new (pictured).

Tried the Escargot Vermicelli in Soup, with the Iced Coffee. Yummy ? Remember don't eat too fast, easy to choke, that's no fun. But definitely I like the soup, finished 80% of it, that's too good.

This is a small restaurant (5 tables) with a one page menu. We ordered the spring roll appetizer and a noodle dish we hadn't tried before, for two of us to share. The noodle tray came with a huge stack of vermicelli noodles, a bowl of meaty soup, and green salad. We were directed to fill our bowl with noodles, spoon meat and broth over them, and top with the greens. This was excellent! We were familiar with the Vietnamese spring rolls (aka roll dip) and these were also very good. We would visit again!

Been too long since we’ve been to Thai Luong. Most recent visit was on a late Saturday afternoon Menu has been condensed to 17 items. Food is still excellent although prices have gone up. Make sure you ask/try the pickled garlic and hot pepper jar (there’s only one to share between the tables). - Bun cha ca (C1) ($13.50) - broth is subtle but homey. Tasty fish cakes. - Bun thit nuong nem cha la lot (C7) ($17.50) - this is the only vermicelli dish I want to eat. Crispy spring roll, satisfying betel leaf and the grilled pork is delicious. A must try if you’ve never had it. Debit or cash only. One of the few Northern Vietnamese spots in town.
