Really enjoyed the multidisciplinary approach with online content, in-class teaching and hands-on learning in two different ski touring areas. Everything was really professional with their Covid 19 policies. Safe but still accessible. I also really enjoyed Pete’s teaching method that made us use our critical thinking skills in real life scenarios. Big emphasis on avalanche terrain identification and prevention... and good overview of companion rescue. Highly recommend! 5 stars!

We backcountry ski a fair bit on our own, but we also like to treat ourselves to guided-catered ski weeks; we are always looking forward to those weeks with David and his team. David is a fantastic guide! He is professional, highly skilled, knowledgeable, patient, and super fun to ski with. Summit Mountain Guides know how to make the best of any weather/snow/avalanche conditions to maximize the skiing. We trust their skills and judgment, and have always felt safe. We have also always enjoyed the company of the other guests on our trips J. I highly recommend booking a trip with Summit Mountain Guides, you won’t regret it!!

As usual, the course was exceptionally delivered, above and beyond any other we have taken. As a former teacher, I can say that David masters pedagogy and the technical aspect. The course was taught efficiently with plenty of room for the participants to comfortably ask questions in a safe environment. I highly recommend SMG for any course or trip, highly professional. Every participant is made comfortable with David’s personal interactions. You cannot go wrong.

Since my last review for years ago I have done a number of trips with David I have done trips with him both in the a in Svolbard near the NorthPole and most recently in Alaska climbing on skis areas that had not been done before all I we’ve had spectacular adventures that aren’t paralleled Why? 1) He is willing to take on challanging and adventurous expeditions with guests that many guide would only do with friends. 2) he does his homework thorough planning the trip 3) His skills are superb so he can “get you up anything” 4) he is low key and very friendly, freely sharing his knowledge 4) most important is his judgment. I have seen him do routes that others would back down from but I have also seen him back away when it seemed to be too risky. Impeccable judgement. 5) his cooking....not bad!

The location was perfect, the information provided prior to starting the course was timely and accurate, and the approach was short and simple (thus, there was more time to learn and practice). The guide, David, was patient, clear and engaging, and effective in conveying a large amount of content in great detail. He was also reflective and considerate of our questions and comments and adjusted our lesson sensitively to each person's objectives and needs. He was also calm, positive and good humored, which matters a great deal when you are trying to learn in cold temperatures. Can't wait to do another course with them again!

They have been very responsive via phone and email and communication has been clear. Each outing, the guide has impressed me with their knowledge of the local terrain and ability to find great snow. I felt safe at all times and was impressed with the guide's ability to manage hazards. The guide also shared a wealth of information regarding the terrain, avalanche problem, weather, etc.. A day with Summit Mountain Guides provides not only a day of fantastic skiing but also an investment in your skills and knowledge. I intend to ski with Summit Mountain Guides again and would recommend them to family and friends visiting the Kootenays.
