★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful place for camping and swimming. Unfortunately most people are smoking, which is banned due to the high fire hazard, and there’s no enforcement of smoking or quiet time. People partying til 2am. CRD needs to be more responsible.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is less of a review of the campground, and more of a review of the first come first serve process.
I arrived at the check in gates at 1030am to line up for first come first serve spots at 1pm. The young girl at the check in informed me that they were full for the night. My first thought was that they were full because no one was checking out this morning. However three trailers pulled out immediately. I asked how is it full when check in hours are a few hours away. She then Informed me that the owner ( Tony I believe, but could be wrong) had taken some reservations earlier that morning for some people who arrived early and didn't want to stay around for 1pm. She mentioned she wasn't sure why this happened because that's not the way things worked.
This is flawed. Terribly ran in that sense.
Also, she informed me that a lot of people will show up Wednesday, and book Wednesday thru Sunday, only to leave, go home until Friday, and then show up for two days of their 5 day reservation. Makes me wanna just go camp in a park since it's the only available camping spots on the South Island

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice setting, but something weird is going on with bookings. Visited someone in the campground. Sign by gate said 'Campground is full,' but there were TONS of empty spots when we got inside the grounds. There were still TONS of empty spots hours later, in the eve, when we left. And no one was there at the gate when we left, so they didn't know that the spot was vacant earlier than expected. They really need a better system.

Lots of water taps and bathrooms. No showers or laundry services.

Perfect camping spot for families. We had a great time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The bicycle sites are in the former “group site” so offer a sheltered eating area and social atmosphere, but the 4 tent pads are squished together. It would be great if the pads could eventually be spaced out.
Now the cycling sites have 4 bear caches, one for each tent pad; and if you bring a padlock you can lock away your valuables!
I find this is a wonderful campsite; quiet, clean, and decently priced. I’ve never had issues with noisy campers here, normally it’s very quiet and family-oriented. A great overnight bike trip when you need to get out of the city for a bit.
