About SHIFT Accessibility Contractors Ltd.
How can we use the skills we have to remove barriers for our community? That’s what we (Josh and Griffin) asked ourselves in 2018 when we noticed a need for accessibility experts in construction. We realized that within the built community lies a large gap that segregates disabled people and seniors, and that the available solutions to these barriers are not enough.
Once the switch was flipped, we couldn't unsee it. From noticing assisted living facilities that lacked accessibility for its residents, to friends and family members struggling to navigate their homes, we are aware of how spaces lack the adequate accessibility to make for an accessible and comfortable life.
This brought upon the formation of Shift Accessibility Contractors Ltd. whose mission and core values are built on developing more inclusive environments so that people of all abilities may live independently, seek opportunity, and be included.
With the focus solely on accessible and universal projects, Shift works directly with occupational therapists, homeowners, architects, and businesses. We understand the difference a project like this can make in one's life and therefore undertake anything from grab bar installations to full home remodelling in order to make a space best fit for you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When we decided to install an elevator in our three-story home we spoke to several suppliers in Alberta about preparing the site in a unique setting. SHIFT Accessibility Contractors Ltd. was referred to us by several specialists and we were not disappointed. Site preparation and installation is key to the success of an after-build initiative and the team at SHIFT Accessibility was up for the challenge. I have delt with many contractors over the years and this group are at the top of their game. From the quotation process through excavation and development to managing external trades, scheduling, and city inspections, they did not miss a beat. In addition, we were provided “daily updates”. I have to say, SHIFT Accessibility really exceeded our expectations. Completion was on time and budget despite unforeseen complications. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We are really happy with the work that Shift provided. We had an elevator installed in an old home which meant a lot of surprises once walls started to come down (ie. asbestos!). We worked with Josh, mainly, and he was incredibly professional, responsive and very respectful of all our needs and concerns along the way. I felt we were in very good hands the entire time which is hard to come by these days and very reassuring given the nature and scale of this project. Josh went the extra mile on many occasions to ensure the job was done right, through to completion. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ WE had Shift Accessibility come out to repair a water leak around one of our windows. Came out the day after we called to inspect the window, diagnose the problem, give us a quote and provide us a timeline to make the repairs. All of this plus the repair only took a few days. Josh provided us with a detail diagnosis along with pictures to support this. Josh was able to clearly indicate where the problem with the window was and that in fact all of our windows had the same problem. As a result of this, we contacted the window company that replaced our windows less than 2 years ago and had them come out to review Josh's findings. Their inspection along with the pictures Josh took during Shift's repair was all that was needed for this window company to make the same repairs to all of our windows. We greatly appreciated the work that Shift Accessibility provided us, as it lead to having all our windows properly installed. Our family now have used Shift Accessibility twice. Once for our initial window repair and once for a major renovation of an apartment to make it completely accessible for a wheel user. Outstanding company with outstanding employees. We would not hesitate to use them in the future or to recommend them to others.

They then provided renovation services for the sale of the home we moved out of. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Shift Accessibility Contractors were the General Contractors for @ARKCalgary (Accessibility Renovations for Kids) most recent bathroom renovation for 5 yr old Jaydon. ARK is a local charity that provides accessibility home renovations for children who struggle with mobility at home and Josh and Griffin have become amazing supporters of ARK.
On Jaydon's project, they made a significant donation of their time and resources and were fantastic to work with. They looked after the project management and construction aspects that included finding high quality skilled trades and securing donations of materials and labour, all while being very considerate of the ARK family.
The project was on schedule and resulted in a high quality accessible bathroom that meets the mobility needs of Jaydon and his family. Their contribution was integral to the success of the project and we really appreciate their dedication to helping ARK reshape the world of children with mobility challenges!

Griffin and Josh did a great job planning out our bathroom and honestly, I never dreamt it would be as beautiful as it is! Gordon was the guy here making it all come to life, and he was really good at communicating and letting you know day by day, what would be going on and who would be coming to do a certain task everyday. He was an amazing worker and very efficient! Actually every single contractor that came into our home was extremely friendly and worked very efficiently! Shift Accessibility is extremely professional and kind at the same time, I would recommend them to anybody that needs renovations whether they are accessible or not!
