Excellent dining experience. On top of quality delicious food, without knowing that one of our guests was celiac there was plenty of gluten free options for him to eat. The only thing that wasn’t a knock out of the park was the desserts, but that very well could be because we were all so full. 1. Edamame with foam and edible flowers: it was nice, but honestly edamame is edamame…. I understand the flourish because of the restaurant we were in. The foam was bland and didn’t add anything to the dish. I think it was there more for aesthetic than for taste. 2. Various Bao. Our table went for the pork belly and the Ebi. Seriously so good. And genuinely should’ve been our dessert. Pork belly was tender and flavourful. Ebi was sauced enough, but still kept the crunch of the tempura. 3. Glass noodle salad. A nice mix of Japanese and Vietnamese inspired with a hint of fish sauce. Overall refreshing and a nice acidic breakup to the palette. 4. Kholrabi, whipped ube (purple yam), various root veg, kimchi and shoyu vinaigrette. Another well balanced acidic and lightly spiced dish that cleansed the palate of more savoury dishes. If you like to TASTE and decipher food, this one is a fun head scratcher that really wakes up all the taste buds. 5. Spiced Kobocha Squash. A beautifully roasted seasoned squash and great textures with some a dollop of ricotta. A great combination of crunch, soft, spicy and savoury. I liked this so much I ordered one for my parents to try for something unique to try. Warning, contains hazelnuts. 6. Bam bam short rib. They need time to prepare this. Get this… soft, tender, fall off the phone with delicious crisp ends… WORTH IT 7. Matcha ice cream bar. Presentation is beautiful. Chocolate had a great bite. Overall underwhelmed by this dessert. Barely tasted the matcha in the ice cream. Black sesame was a great addition to texture and a nice paring with the matcha. Just wish we could taste the matcha more. 8. Churro like twisted donut with a citrus dipping sauce. I liked the churro. I mean who doesn’t like deep fried bread? But I couldn’t taken a bath in the citrus sauce. Give me a perfect scoop of vanilla ice cream with that sauce and I would’ve been so happy. Not pictured… Wagyu Tataki… the beef melted in your mouth and with the pac Choy Serrano it’s was also very flavourful. Our server was also exceptional, she was attentive, patient when one of our guests was running late and was so kind to repeat the dishes that were celiac friendly. What a great experience. I’m sure to dine here again. Next time I’m in Calgary.

Great experience. Service was amazing, the hostess was able to offer great suggestions and explain the menu very well. Food was amazing and the presentation was beautiful. Portion sizes were bigger than I thought so well worth the price. 10/10 would recommend!

Great cocktails, delicious food, solid service, awesome playlist!! The only thing that I would recommend, is that if you’re over 5’6” and going there for more than just a quick cocktail and appie, request not to be seated at one of the low, round tables. It’s pretty uncomfortable. Food wise, we had the Brussel Sprouts, Waygu Tataki, Pork Belly and Ebi Prawn Baos, Duck Confit, and Bam Bam Shortribs. It was the best food all around that we’ve had in a long time and we are definitely “couples who dine out”. The “accoutrement” on the dishes was equally well thought out, delicious and fun to eat. We are super excited about this unique, delicious and classy addition to the neighborhood. Highly recommend!! (The flowers have nothing to do with the restaurant . My hubs gave them to me right before we went out…awwwww…❤️)

We found Sensei in Calgary one night because we were having a Bao craving. So we just searched on Google Maps. We found a late night reservation at this little eclectic Asian fusion restaurant just outside of the hustle and bustle of 17th Ave. This was just a stopover on our way to the mountains from Edmonton. Alas, in the future this will become a prime destination. The food was beyond sensational. So much detail to presentation. And perhaps the best and freshest tasting Bao outside of Vancouver. Every dish was so tastefully delivered. And the service was upbeat and extremely friendly and helpful. We have talked about just driving to Calgary for another night of Bao indulgence. That's how good this place is. You won't regret it.

We visited Sensei Bar for Valentine’s Day dinner date. We had some of the best dishes we ever tried. Chef Erin is so incredibly talented I am amazed at the flavour combinations she can come up with. She even makes Brussels sprouts taste delicious! I would recommend every single Bao flavour, all are made from scratch including the bread! All baos are unique and worth trying. Another favourites of ours were Truffle dumplings and kobocha squash as well as Bam Bam Shortrib but there really wasn’t anything that we ordered and didn’t enjoy. We received 5 star service from Mami who made sure we never had an empty glass in front of us and brought our food out in courses so we could savour every dish. She was always there when we needed something. Amane served us some delicious sake and made our night even more special. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

The most delicious food and incredible service. Every single plate we ordered was beautifully plated, more like art than a meal and tasted even better than it looked! We’re planning another trip back just for the cocktails alone, every one we tried was so complex and delightful. Can’t recommend it enough.

Its a competitive future fine dine potential restaurant.. I know we do not have Michelin star restaurants here but I can see a possibility here. The chef was amazing and the service was one of the best. The Manager was making sure he is on the fine tune menu mode which I expect, positively thriving for the best restaurants. Salute the quality flowers used in cocktails and to the tiny mushrooms used in deep earth dishes. We could taste the forest and the uniqueness of the earth rich wow effects. Well done guys. We will be back soon with our picky friends and reviewers.
