β β β β β The great thing about Nanaimo is that it has such a variety of foods from different culturesβSandy's Ukrainian Kitchen is no exception!
I really enjoyed the variety of perogies from this place (by the away, a note to reviewers complaining about "blandness"βin traditional Eastern-European cuisine, seasoning is often up to the eater, not the chef!) and I was blown away by the little side candy and such that they give you with your main course.
In every possible way, this is an authentic Ukrainian cuisine experience and I recommend it for anyone, for a meal or a snack alike.

β β β β β Great little food shop, selling hot meals and frozen take home versions. I highly recommend.

β β β β β I really really wanted to like them as making homemade Ukrainian food is laborous. Unfortunately the cabbage rolls are unseasoned and are 95 percent rice. They charge $5 for a small container of tomato sauce on top of the price for small cabbage rolls, so it's not a good value for basically rice and tomato sauce. The borscht was okay, more flavour but still missing the mark. If you don't like overly spiced food, and things very simple I can see why they're popular but I myself enjoy flavour.
