Sal's Grocery Store

1st time to visit this location. Unbelievable bargain prices and items of day to day groceries available in the store. Some items must check the expiration date on the items. Great customer service and also have bakery at the back of the store. Keep up the good work to keep helping local communities in South Ajax.

Great prices on a lot of popular name brand items, and they usually have some very good deals on their meats. Although those who say "expired food" in their reviews don't understand that dates on food items are a SELL BY DATE. A product doesn't go bad at 12:01am the day after. Certain items are perfectly fine to consume months after this date. I've used condiments that were two years past the sell by date with no ill effects. Really depends on the item and when in doubt the smell test comes in handy. I only wish Sal's was a bit closer to me as I don't get to visit as often as I would like sadly. As some others have said though the aisles are a tad small so those who desire their space, especially in these crazy times, may not be fond of shopping here. Very easy to go in thinking you are just going to pick up a few items and then you leave with a cart full of deals you weren't expecting.

They have some very good prices and different brands of stuff. I like their frozen vegetables the best.As some of said check your dates, but in all reality the product does not turn bad the day of expiry, It's just a suggested date.

Decent prices if you are on a budget, yes there are products with expiry dates but it all depends on people's preferences.. I think it's a great price friendly place , lovely customer services

I left a bag of groceries at Sal’s Grocery Store. It wasn’t entirely my fault as a second cashier bagged the groceries and handed me two bags before proceeding to bag the next customer’s grocery items. When I came home and realized what happened, I called Sal’s and reported that some groceries were accidentally left at checkout. The manager told me that cashier was no longer on shift and to call back tomorrow. I called the following morning and the phone rang constantly, without answer, so I drove to the grocery store and asked to speak to the manager. As I started to introduce myself, she immediately interrupted with a blunt, “yes, I remember our phone conversation the day before.” She informed me that they didn’t find any unclaimed groceries and proceeded to tell me, “you would be surprised at how many dishonest people are in this world”. We both stood quietly for a moment as I wondered if I was being accused of being dishonest, and at the same time, accepting that there’s no hope of recovering my groceries – concluded it was gone. She wasn’t interested in seeing my receipt or getting my phone number, or checking the cameras; she wasn't about to pretend to be remotely interested. There was just silence and an awkward stare after passing her comment. In that moment of disgust and disbelief, I didn’t respond to her. I just walked out of the store thinking, losing the money and groceries is one thing, but the feeling of mistrust and lack of customer care or service is disgusting. After 30 plus years, I won’t be shopping at Sal’s anymore!

Great deals for meat products and excellent deli selection. Crazy cuts but best taste! Inner isle food a bit overpriced. The deals for dry food goods are mostly beyond best before dates; a non-issue for most items which are perfectly fine well beyond the bb date, depending on each item.

An Ajax institution. The place for deals. Family owned and run. Very friendly staff. Very good deli counter. Lots of deals on chocolate bars and candy. Check the Best Before dates on some deeply discounted items. You have to come at least once a week and if you see something you like, buy it. They can turnover stock quickly and it may not be there next time. My fave place for groceries. Some stock can be very old, hence, the 4 stars rather than 5.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The fresh meats are great, most of the fresh Vegetables are great too. The only problem here is many products are past the best before date. That would be ok if they would only inform us on the reduced price sign. I would still buy some if they did.
