I visited this shop yesterday after wanting to go for several years! What an awesome little shop this is. I was looking for yarn for a colour work piece I want to do and I had so much help from the lovely sales lady and also honest opinions on colour choices and suggestions from the owners as well. The vibe I got is that they really enjoy what they do and this spills over to the customers for sure. Other reviewers have commented on the price of yarns being high here but honestly if you are a serious knitter you know the prices of most yarns and it isn't a shock when you are considering certain ones. They also carry a good selection of affordable good quality yarns too. I come to yarn shops because I want a certain type of yarn and experience and Michaels and Walmart certainly cannot compete. So I would highly recommend this little shop where even though I visited for the first time I felt like they were old friends. Although it takes me 2.5 hours to get there I will return. :)

I’ve always had really good experiences in-store and with staff at RCY. Today I was browsing their online shop for the first time and spent a long time picking out yarn for a new project. I was able to add the quantity I wanted to my cart, but it wasn’t until checkout, after I’d spent hours making my selection, that I got a notification that they had less of the product than I needed. It would be helpful to get some indication of low stock or, even better, the exact quantity left, much, much earlier in the process. I was pretty disappointed.

I went here once in the pre-covid times and also ordered yarn to be picked up recently. Everyone there is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, each yarn had a story behind it. There's a wide variety of fibers, all quality, and with a great range in price for your budget. Whatever your project is I guarantee you can get the supplies here, and if you're not sure they know exactly what to recommend. Now that there's covid, they're doing extremely good job at keeping everything safe and in my opinion being very smart about it all. I ordered online and was able to pick up same day, and they even included a little tea package which I loved and was delicious. Needless to say, I'm a fan! Also if you sign up for the newsletter they always have seasonal yarns /bundles / activities which is probably fun if you're always making projects and looking to try (and read as there's often books) new things.

This is a great local yarn shop. They have answered so many of my questions and helped me out so many times. I love the option of doing a drop in session for more detailed help with specific questions. The selection is amazing and I appreciate their efforts to highlight Canadian dyers. I really like the number of samples they have around the store. On a recent visit, I was looking for a particular item that the store didn’t carry. Rather than just say we don’t have it, they directed me to another local yarn store that carries that item. I appreciate that sense of community and that it was more about helping me find what I needed for a project rather than trying to sell me something that isn’t quite right.

Their store has such a welcoming atmosphere and enticing displays! The staff is very helpful yet not hovering. I’ve missed them (and my family in Edmonton) dearly because of Covid. They stay in touch with us via podcasts, email and social media. They are brave and resourceful and I can’t wait to see them again!

RCY goes above and beyond with customer service. I'm 2 hours away from Edmonton but love supporting local wherever I can. Sadly where I live the closet local yarn store is in Edmonton. After browsing the site I feel in love with some yarn but I had never used the weight before. So I emailed them asking some questions, feeling a little nervous because I'm not a pro at knitting or crocheting. Barb got back to me in a reasonable time answering all my questions and even making sure we were on the same page asked some questions back. The customer service is wonderful (I feel like that's even an understatement). No question is ever so little or big. I look forward to coming in one day to shop in person. I can only imagine how wonderful the customer service is in store if its so wonderful online.

I ordered yarn, and due to the way I had to pay for it, I had to order in two orders. I called the shop after placing, and left a messaging asking if they could ship them together, or if I needed to pay extra. I got an email a day later saying they were shipping everything together for me. This over and above the time spent with me on the phone by one of the lovely ladies as she helped me to choose a yarn that I would be happy with, since I couldn't go in to the shop and touch the yarns myself. My package arrived today, and I am ecstatic with my purchase. Great service, great products. I will definitely be back again.

Drove up from Calgary & wasn’t able to purchase anything as it’s no longer open to in person shopping. I loved River City for the kits & beautiful projects displayed for inspiration. I always bought projects based on their inspiration. I guess I won’t be shopping for yarn any longer when I come to Edmonton. So sad.
