Friendly staff and a clean well maintained waiting area. Clear safety information given. My only suggestion would be to run every 1/2 half hour on weekends.

The ferry ride to and from Nanaimo over to Protection Island is a small boat. The view of the harbour gives you a look back at Nanaimo, have your camera ready because the choice of views is what pic to take first.

Goes every hour. Friendly skippers. Serves the Dinghy Dock pub and local residents. $10 return for adults less for kids & seniors.

Very fun little ride over to the floating pub.The seats should be arranged like a hay ride though. It's better to be able to look outside than stare at the person across from you :)

This was a waste of money and time. The boat is always late and goes super slow. The island stinks and is awful. I sat in the pub for over 15 minutes but didn't get any service so I left and caught the ferry back to Nanaimo. Will definitely never return!

Poorly run - slow as molasses and no organized line control and buyer beware that the restaurant staff who call themselves 'deck hands' take priority and can separate your family to bump you off - pretty hard to take after you pay money taking the ferry to go sit in their restaurant to spend money and tip their staff who bump you off - poor taste. Ridiculous. Ferry should be gratis if you dine in their restaurant. I won't be back.

The ferry captain was incredibly rude and unaccomodating. There is a clear ferry schedule established, which in my opinion should be maintained and adhered to if advertised. I understand that they have double runs on occasion, but at least leave at the posted times! People have lives and are trying to plan according to your β€œschedule.” The ferry left 15 minutes prior to the posted time, with 2 passengers aboard. I had just arrived at the dock when he was pushing off, and although I yelled out to see if he would allow me on, he looked at me and dismissed me completely. I missed a dinner with family. This particular captain is ignorant and disrespectful of people’s time and plans. So much for accommodating your patrons at the pub, or holding any level of customer service.

The island itself is beautiful, but the washrooms in the camping areas are disgusting beyond belief. The trail maintenance is atrocious, the restaurant has sporadic hours. Basically, it is poorly run and managed by the First Nations. Bring your own food and water. Great for mountain biking,
