In 1983, brothers, Gene and Louis Dupuis purchased a small butcher shop on Ontario Avenue in Saskatoon. Prairie Meats quickly developed a reputation for personalized service and quality products. The local family butcher shop soon grew, and in 1990 Prairie Meats moved operations to the Millar Avenue location that still serves as the flagship retail store today. A new 50,000 sq ft state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facility was opened in 2006. Growth continued with the addition of community retail stores, expansion into Regina and most recently expansion into Prince Albert. Prairie Meats has truly become a hallmark company in the province of Saskatchewan.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Three strikes for Prairie Meats. They’ve lost my business for good. In the past I’ve had two bad experiences purchasing steaks at Prairie Meats. The quality of the steaks did not match the price, nor what I would expect from a butcher. Today I tried to buy pork back ribs. They only had cryovac package ribs. The racks were sad looking, with “shiners” (exposed bone). This happens when they are cut too close to the bone. Ribs should be meaty all over - these were not. I talked to the meat cutter who basically shrugged and said “that’s how we bring them in.” A meat shop should provide a product that is better than the average grocery store. Prairie Meats has failed repeatedly to achieve this minimum standard.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Prairie Meats was serving unmasked customers on Sept 23rd at 4:00pm. This is against public current public health orders.
I asked the customer to put on a mask; the customer ignored me. I also commented to the workers that they should not serve this customer. The staff was polite but did not act. I called the office to notify the managers; left a message, but no managers returned my call.
I have been a loyal customer to Prairie Meats for 10 years. But if I have another experience where they serve people that don’t follow health guidelines; I will be taking my business to other butcher shops.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was a cook 20 years ago. The quality of every item we received from pm was amazing. A couple weeks ago I purchased a sausage sample box for almost 70 dollars. The farmer sausage had so much filler had I dropped it three bounces later I would need a ladder to get it off the roof. My jaw still hurts. The Mennonite sausage was fantastic years ago !! But not now. I think they ♻️ used rubber gloves for the casings lol. I'm so disappointed. I used to buy a case of the Mennonite for about 30 $. Julienne cut it into half inch pieces and add a bottle of lager as I fried it . I will find a small butcher that still values quality over profit.
