I never write reviews, but I saw that the centre I go to for therapy had a really bad rating and I do not think that reflects my therapist's work. I cannot speak for the other therapists or counsellors who work there, so I will only be speaking about my experience with my therapist. My therapist is Pamela, in her description it said something about specializing in art therapy and eye movement desensitization. I'm not an art person, so I felt skeptical. She did do some exercises with me that involved images or that required me to close my eyes and visualize what the pain or feeling I was feeling looked like. I was wary of these activities because I didn't believe in them. BUT, please wait. I find Pamela professional because she never provides you with her own unsolicited advice. She will never tell you what is right or wrong, but she guides you to make your own decisions. I mean, what is right/wrong or bad/good is subjective to everyone. At the same time, those are also terms she tries to get me to avoid using because it's a lot of black and white thinking. She's taught me a lot of things such as the thinking error I just spoke about--black and white thinking. There were other things that she's taught me that I felt really uncomfortable with, because I wasn't use to it. For example, self-compassion. But overtime, I can see my own mindset change or I will have thoughts such as, "oh my therapist will probably say this right now, or oh I should use this strategy, etc". Uncomfortable doesn't mean it doesn't work, it just means you're not use to it. Now, I CANNOT guarantee you that Pamela as a therapist will work for you. Therapy is different for everyone, and i've tried different therapists. Some may work for you, some may not. This is only my experience working with Pamela.
