I was in a small fender bender and received quick and efficient service. Had my car in at my preferred body shop w/ rental car within less than a week. Received a call from the adjuster next business day. :)

They are a great company. I was broken into and I just signed up for their renters insurance 2 days prior. They were extremely helpful and my claim was settled fast. I also have my car insurance from them and I find them very easy to deal with.

Even if you have to pay more for another company it’s worth the extra money. Portage is the worst insurance company every. I was hurt in a car accident last year and they are suppose to pay you my rehabilitation but it has been a fight all the way. They don’t call you back and they try to get you to not go for what you are owed. I could keep going on how much they suck but they aren’t worth the time. Just don’t use them and if you are change to another company NOW!!!!!!

STAY AWAY! They fought hard to deny a claim of Overland Flooding. Took a MONTH after the flood for them to final approve the claim, only after fighting with us, changing the reason for denial multiple times, causing us to have to refute each denial, then finally going to their lawyers who told them to pay. They decided they would process it as a septic flood, which it was most definitely not, asked us to put in a new sump inside our house and a backlog valve. We live on an acreage and were advised by MULTIPLE plumbers that it was not something we should do, they can cause more damage than good on septic tanks and fields. We were advised 1 month before our renewal that they wanted us to fix all the foundation issues (of which their are none, and the restoration company we hired to fix our basement did moisture testing in the walls after the flood event and found no issues), then when we asked for the proof that these issues they were claiming to be the reason for requiring all of this work to be done, they told use they will not renew our policy and so far they will not remove any of the statement about our house which will make it almost impossible for us to get new insurance. STAY AWAY!

I switched from Intact insurance to Portage La Prairie Mutual Insurance Co and it was the worst mistake of my life. My coverage with Portage started in June and it is now October and their finance department has yet to fix the on going issue with what they would like to withdraw for a payment out of my bank account. This has forced me to miss time from work once a month having to go and pay my auto and home insurance directly to my broker, unwarranted NSF Fees and stop payment fees from my bank because they decided to take more than we agreed upon for a payment. Not to mention the frustration of having a new piece of mail show up every week with a new amount that they want to charge me for insurance. If only I could turn back time I would have never switched insurance companies!! For anyone considering Portage for and Insurance provider please don't make the same mistake I did.

Do yourself a favor and stay clear of Portage Mutual. I was involved in a smaller accident. From the very beginning when i started my claim my adjuster acted as if i was burdening her. Communication was almost non existent, when we talked over email it was usually a sentence or less. At one point she advised me that it was up to ME to contact the autobody shop because she didn't add things previously discussed to the estimate. Tesh never answered questions and if she did it was followed up with attitude. No follow up after the collison. NOTHING. I Will NEVER used Portage Mutual insurance again, and will be passing along a similar email/message to anyone i can.

19 year customer and supposedly a 7/7 in terms of rating (highest rating) with them and they jacked up my rates by $100 a month on my recent renewal. Nice way of "rewarding" one of your more desirable customers. Will not be renewing with them again when I can get the old rate I had with another company. My broker at the time was no longer using Portage and now I know why. Treating valuable customers like this is just down right despicable. Just to add to this, I was just charged almost $600!!! to cancel the policies withing 30 days... Robbery. Stay away.

I was with Portage for 15 years for contractors insurance with 1 small claim many years ago. They cancelled my policy without a reasonable explanation.
