About Oromo Community Association of Alberta
The Oromo Community Association of Alberta was founded by six Oromo individuals who wanted to have a structure to their relationship that was based on their Oromo identity. In 1989 when this group of individuals came together to create a community, the individuals were the only members and only Calgary residents from Oromo backgrounds. What makes us different from many community associations is the fact that we originated from Ethiopia but organized ourselves in the name of our nation rather than the name of the country we came from.
