I recently contacted Ontario Ombudsman and found them NOT to be courteous , open, or approachable. My experience was that they were rude, impatient and will not allow me to finish speaking. The staff member hung up on me in middle of the conversation when I was inquiring about their policies and procedures; I could not locate the same information on their website. I found them to be unprofessional and unethical. I previously dealt with them around 2006 about a complex matter and their staff were excellent in resolving the matter and treating me with respect and dignity. It appears that at present I am now dealing with the new hires who do not have the same work ethics and dedication to their work and purpose.

Investigator was polite. That is all the good I can say. A complaint to the Ombudsman is a WASTE OF TIME. Can’t say I wasn’t warned but when you provide documented corruption you kind of expect something can and will be done. Nope. They acknowledge things that are inappropriate then advise the Municipality by suggesting β€œbetter practices”. β€œNo further will be taken.” Why does this taxpayer funded agency even exist?

I found them to be effectively helpful with Hydro One when the Smart meters came in. That started in my area in 2013 / 2014 . 10,000 + complaints later I saw that there's an Ombudsman just for Hydro One. I see that Hydro One is coming at us again with raised rates. (2019). I hope the Ombudsman's office is as effective with these new complaints because the problem remains the same. Ontarians can't pay. I almost lost my house last time, trying to keep up with my OTHER bills. I'm a Senior on a fixed income. I've got no more to give. Sincerely Brenda Acero

I spoke with a very resourceful individual at this office that pretty much did what he could to help me find the resources I might need. When it comes to actually "fixing" issues? Who knows... I was in a very dangerous situation after being a victim of a random criminal act, and ended up losing my residence and business in the process. I was given over 40 phone numbers to call, and no additional help. It's like I've always said - the government is not there to help people - but to maintain order. If the public feels they are being "taken care of", then individuals who are on the fringes suffer as everything is "business as usual" for the majority. It's like the opinion that people on ODSP should be grateful that such a program exists. True. But how much money does the Ombudsman and the provincial/federal government lose because of clerical mismanagement, poor policy, and unfair directives? And then it gets blamed on ODSP recipients who aren't allowed to make enough money to feed their kids...

Horrible experience . My daughter is at high risk in a congregate setting called the hub . The ombudsman’s office doesn’t care they are biased . I have had so many rude workers . It’s a disgrace this office .

I think the Office of Ombudsman is improving. They can help you shine a light on corruption and/or ncompetence in a provincial ministry or a municipality, but they are either unwilling or not mandated to do more. There is high turnover in this office and most officers are just passing through. This office is very important to keep Ontario and Canada competitive, and for the maintenance our quality of life. Perhaps one day, they will rise to the challenge.

Ombudsman had a clear partisan approach when I complained on FSRA after which in my civil case where I had been stigmatized as vexatious litigant as Ombudsman decision contributed to my debacle. Readers may find it in Canlii website. I am appealing this decision and I have started my conversation with Ontario Law Reform Commission to make appropriate changes in the law. Enough is enough for me, now reform time. To all other self-represented readers, Canlii and the access to justice path Canlii teaches with respect to precedence’s and associated websites that each Canlii records may mention, is the only reasonable method to legally empower yourself and I did it all on my own and now confident to face any court hearings. Don't shy away, your courage now is other Ontarian’s confidence later.

Experienced in Jan. 2022: A female worker from Ombudsman Child Youth Unit called me responding to my inquiry about my case. She could not wait for me to complete my very brief info about my inquiry and claimed she knows about the situation by saying 'I ASSUME this or that...' but later complained I did not give her info of my case. She kept interrupting me, I had to stop talking. What was she doing? I did not start anything with Ombudsman yet, wasn't it a waste of time for nothing already? My case won't get anywhere with such underqualified servants of Ontario government. Shameful that Canada is no better than so-called Third World countries because of these inadequate servants in provincial ministries and Ombudsman who are paid by taxpayers for doing nothing all day and all year long. Their location in Toronto makes it the most filthy city.
