★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing views. Road is not maintained and is recommended only in a 4x4. That being said, we climbed it in a Toyota Camry without incident twice. Use your judgement and take it slow, but it can be climbed in a regular car.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the highest points on the island. Takes a 4x4 vehicle or bike with wider tires to make it up the steep and bumpy service road but it’s well worth it! Rode up early on my bike to beautiful views. There are picnic tables up top.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Mt. Maxwell offers a magnificent view of Gulf Island scenery. The only way to get something better is to rent a plane. The trip up the mountain takes a while and the road is quite rough. Do not attempt it in a vehicle with low clearance. I have successfully done it in a Wrangler and a Ram. Check the weather before your ascent, as I've gone up, only to be disappointed by obscuring clouds. Additionally, you may want to bring something warm to wear, as the wind can pick up. However, at the top, there's lots of parking, there are bathrooms available, and benches where you can enjoy the view in comfort. Every time I'm up there I think it would be the perfect setting for a picnic.

If you drive, have a 4x4 with clearance. The road is rough but oh-so worth it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you don't have a serious 4x4 vehicle I would attempt to drive all the way up until the fix the road a bit. I did see two vehicles make it up and was surprised they even attempted it. I went up on an adventure motorcycle and had to take a second run at one portion of the road. The view is worth it if you can make it up.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Me and my friends hiked Mount Maxwell. I give this 4 out of 5 stars because this summit itself wasn’t the best part of the hike. There are many look-outs before this summit. The look-outs had a better view in my opinion because at the summit, it was just a harbour and the island. The other points had more of the gulf islands and Vancouver Island. I highly recommend everyone to do this hike! It’s a moderate hike level.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This lookout has views that are some of the best on Vancouver Island. I've lived on the island my entire life and when I went to this lookout, I was blown away! I couldn't believe I had never been to this lookout before. The road is really rough on the way up, so you may need to hike the final 1-2 kilometres. But you will not be disappointed. There are also trees at the top you can easily attach a hammock to. Or multiple hammocks! I went with two friends and the three of us set up hammocks on trees right next to each other. The tree cover also allowed for us to be in the shade, and we had a picnic. Overall just a really nice spot and I highly recommend checking it out!
