We went during the off-season, it was quiet during our first visit to Fulford Harbour. Loved the opportunity to try some of their vegan cheezes....I fell in love with the smoked cheddar and bought some to take home. The (I believe husband and wife?) duo were friendly to us, with that small-town charm that might seem invasive to others not used to probing questions. All in all, I'd like to visit again in the summer season.

So delicious! Stop here for a meal and have your socks knocked clean off. Delicious! ??? Chai latte was amazing as well. ?

I was happily taking a photo of fulford, dropping my kids at the ferry... standing across the road from this establishment. I noted a lady setting up chairs outside. All of a sudden she lets out this massive sigh of exasperation because I was snapping a picture. Disgusting behavior by a local who makes a living off of tourism. Zero Stars...do not go here!

Ok here is the deal, my daughter and I made an evening out of reading the bad reviews on this establishment. We thought this tiny shop located in one of the most amazing places on earth would become a cult classic for must experience shop owner abuse. Our expectations for a very acidic experience were extremely high and to be honest we went in looking for it. The kind of next-level "Elbow Room" moment is what we predicted. (for those who have had the pleasure of the Vancouver Elbow Room). As we entered the cafe we were greeted by the owner who was wrapping floral bouquets cross-legged on a bench. With a soft and welcoming smile, she asked if there was anything she could get me. I indicated I could really use a coffee and she said she could definitely help with that. We even tested the asking for a price and it was met with the standard response of the price is...We didn't order food but I had a respectable espresso and a couple of amazing chai Lattes. The place smells amazing and I guess what I am saying is we had a nice time visiting this cafe. By the way, we did go to the food truck next door run by a very nice couple of humans and the food there was AMAZING. I don't write reviews but now I have 2 under my belt. I hope everyone that visits Salt Spring walks softly through the door of Morningside and has a lovely time. out

Went in to look at the books, decided to eat, and very glad that we did. Turmeric latte was amazingly fresh, very well made. Perfect. Manon, the server was incredibly friendly, and Alan, the owner was sitting at a table in the outside 'covered' area and struck up a very pleasant conversation with us about food, chefs, plating, etc. when he overheard me showing my partner a few recipes in a vegetarian cookbook that they had. Now, I DID go through and read about 20 or so reviews and there was a general them of 'rudeness' in them. Maybe something has happened since these reviews, because quite frankly, it was the best service I/we have had in a very long time. As a matter of fact, we were glad we patronized this restaurant. Food quality was above and beyond, presentation was beautiful, and we would most definitely go back. If I, or we, had encountered rudeness, we would have been the first to say so here. We did not, so we will go with OUR experience, and it was very very good. Out of something bad, must come something good. If there HAS been rudeness, it certainly looks to have been addressed, as we noted several customers both before and after us, were ALL treated very well, with 'thank you's' overheard by the customers. As hard as it may be for some, we would recommend going a 2nd time. I personally will attend a place of business a 2nd time if I have had an unpleasant experience, and I also, very nicely, will tell ANYONE if I feel I have been treated poorly, right there, and right then. As I said, we'll be back.

Polarized opinions about this place but I was told the food would make up for the lack of customer service, I came mentally prepared and relaxed... and I personnaly had a GREAT experience here. Didnt even dislike the bit of attitude: it quickly melted and warmed up to great service! Take it with a grain of salt! Great chefs are peculiar artist/humans: they dont always know what to do and how to be with people coming into their space. I love everything about the place: the selection of books, the excellent chaΓ― tea, the incredible sandwich and soup... the list goes on. This is a well thought out place, worth eating at and buying books from. Will go back!

She was incredibly rude. I have no doubt the food is good and the book selection is great but it wasn’t worth it to me. We left. If it wasn’t for the ferry - no way she would be in business.

listen, not everyone is gonna get along with everyone and I think that people are used to this formulaic retail/food experience, and that’s okay, and I’m sure there have been some instances where people were just having bad days or whatever, but she is truly lovely if you approach her with love as well. the food is AMAZING. like for real, some of the best stuff I’ve ever had. I love visiting whenever I’m on the island.
