Produce, meats, basically anything perishable should be purchased with caution!!! The beef β€œsteaks” are cut with a butter knife. The chicken can’t last more than a few days before they are soggy and fill the package with chicken juice. Fruits are generally stored terribly (during delivery or storing before they put it out) because they never ripen. The avocados will rot before they change colour. My point is that prices are too high to be selling rotting and poor quality food. Please do better quality control.

My one recommendation is that they stop doing multi-buy promotions. Everyone shopping here, walks here and likely lives in their own or two people. Why you need to have your deals be restricted to multi-buy is punishing your customers. Do I need two Tropicanas? Two cases of Coke? Two large bags of chips? Two peanut butter jars? I can’t only carry so much lol. Basic retail 101: know your store’s demographics.

I’ve had the Filipino lady at the deli serve me a few times, and she is soo lazy… We asked for our entrΓ©e to be warmed up, and she stuck it in the microwave and the cheese wasn’t even melted or hot. The man behind us had his chicken parm warmed up in the oven by the other nice Asian lady behind the deli, and his actually looked good. The Filipino worker was also super chinsy when she was giving us our sides, while the other one was actually generous. Additionally, she also told the other worker to serve less so customers don’t ask for more… super rude. I think she just doesn’t want to have to remake the food since she’s lazy.

It's a good neighborhood supermarket. Pretty small but have mostly every essential. A bit more expensive compared to a No frills or Walmart

Terrible experience February 26, 2022. There is a rude, tyrannical employee who yells at customers - she seems to be a supervisor, or just yells at other staff. This store needs better customer service training - she would certainly benefit, the other staff were pleasant.

I recently had an unfortunate experience with produce (Driscoll's strawberries) that I purchased from this store. While this could have been a very upsetting experience, I was impressed by the staffs and the owner, Mike, who demonstrated great service, generosity, and professionalism. Although it is a relatively small grocery store, it is located in the heart of Downtown, Toronto, and carries all the products I need. Thank you for making what could have been a terrible experience into a pleasant one, and I look forward to continue shopping here for high quality foods!

I used to live by another small grocery similar to this one that had way better selection of produce. The meat selection is really limited and I’ve just started ordering groceries online because even tho this is the closest to me. The only think I can sometimes find here are the fruits that I want. I once bought lamb from this store and when I opened the package the smell was really off putting. But I hate shopping here for meats. I’m lucky if I even find the right chicken part I’m looking for

Dear Mike, I am concerned about the interaction I witnessed this afternoon in your store. An elderly woman working at your store began berating staff and customers, walking through the customers at the cash-out area to the top of the entrance stairs. After a few moments I understood that her issue was a young woman holding two small well behaved dogs on short leash in the entry way. They waited at the side, quietly causing no noise or commotion. The elderly staffer raged on about blocking the lift, but there was no one in it and the young woman was polite and obviously was accommodating any type of foot traffic. She said nothing and left the two dogs outside with a sympathetic person who had witnessed the scene and reentered to tell her friend. She appeared mortified as did the other cashier staff and customers witnessing a Mike's Independent staffer berating a young female customer. I have seen well behaved dogs wait in the foyer with owners on previous visits to your store and understand how someone might think this is acceptable. It is common these days in all stores in the area. I believe it is a safety measure. A quiet word is all it would have taken if the store had concerns about leased dogs waiting with their owner in the foyer. Walking through the cashiers bellowing and then yelling from the top of the steps at the young person is not how to treat customers. Customers and staff should not have to witness this type of scene. There are many other stores to shop at in this area. Understandably, the young woman said she would not return. I will give your store another chance but I was not the one being yelled at. Though I have to wonder whether this staffer would berate more mature people or men or is it simply an opportunity for an unhappy individual to bully others. I also hope it is not this woman's function to manage the cashiers and/or floor staff; no employee should be subjected to this type of behaviour. I wouldn't shop at a store that deliberately treated its employees this way. I wonder why she is working with the public. Please know that I belong to the same demographic. Times change and you cannot take it out on customers or co-workers.
