THE MIKADO EXPERIENCE Alberta’s first Japanese restaurant, serving Edmonton since 1972.
David Okumiya came to Canada from Japan in 1980 with the goal to spread the beauty of Japanese culture and his passion for his cultures food. It’s because of that passion that Mikado Sushi & Robata is what it is today and continues to provide its patrons with the high-quality, truly delicious sushi.
To provide you with the best sashimi and sushi, we have fresh fish flown weekly from Tsukiji, Japan (the world’s largest fish market), California, Nova Scotia, and the B.C. Coast.
We have genuine Robata grills specially imported from Japan. Their unique design allows for very high temperatures while keeping meats, seafood and vegetables juicy and tender.
The Mikado team is proud to include certified Japanese Sushi Chefs in our kitchen staff. Mikado features large Sushi Bars and Private Tatami Rooms to enhance your dining pleasure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really enjoyed our meals! We had friends come in from out of town and we took them here for dinner. Service was great as well! Thank you Mikado for being one of the best sushi places in town, regardless of the location!
Side note, we always ordered the green tea! Genuine Japanese green tea! You get a pot to share with whoever is at your table and you get charged a per/person rate but it's unlimited refills! Worth!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A buddy and I went for lunch to one of my go-to sushi places for lunch. I have been to the Southside and downtown locations numerous times, but this was the first time to the Westend place. Although much smaller in size, it did not disappoint. Even better... it's close to the office!

I've never seen a restaurant include mushroom an on tempura mix! Very well done.
The sauce that comes with the beef yakiniku is sooo good I wish I could take more home.
The servers are all nice and friendly.
Portions matches the price.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I usually get sushi from here and always top class but today they were extremely busy with dine in and skip . so I think my $100 order was sacrificed by poor food quality . Hence we need more proper sushi restaurants in Edmonton . They use real crab and I love that but this time eating sushi with real crab was like eating a soggy sock ! Very tasteless . I really hope they can maintain the quality since service is brilliant.

Very rare to see a Japanese restaurant with such a huge vegetarian menu. Food looked excellent and tasted even better. Lots of variety. This will become a new favorite place.
