About Manitoulin Health Centre Mindemoya Hospital

Inpatient Physiotherapy

The Manitoulin Health Centre Physiotherapy Department takes a patient-centered, senior friendly approach in the provision of inpatient care. As many of our inpatients are seniors over the age of 65, the Physiotherapy Department’s role is to ensure that these patients are assessed and provided with an opportunity to remain active and mobile during their admission. Upon discharge, the Physiotherapy staff also assess the patient’s homecare needs. This ensures a smooth transition home, with greater success.

Out-patient Physiotherapy

The Physiotherapy Department offers outpatient services  for patients convalescing post-operatively after a joint replacement or shoulder surgery and for patients suffering from a fracture or dislocation.

Our staff are trained to perform comprehensive orthopedic assessments to determine your candidacy for surgical intervention or to guide you through other appropriate treatment recommendations.

Consultations may be arranged with our visiting orthopedic surgeons, during their monthly outreach clinics. If surgery is not required, our staff provide suitable treatment options including education, exercise prescription, injection therapy, assistive devices, bracing, and weight loss. There is no fee to access NEJAC as this service is covered by OHIP.

The GLA:D® program is an educational and exercise program specific for hip and knee osteoarthritis. This program focuses on both education and exercise pertaining to everyday activities. By strengthening the muscles in functional movements and correcting daily movement patterns, participants train their bodies to move properly, thereby preventing symptom progression and reducing pain.

Participants with X-ray findings of mild to severe hip osteoarthritis may be referred by their primary care provider. The program is offered 2x/week for 8 weeks in four communities throughout Manitoulin Island, sponsored by the Family Health Teams and First Nation Partners.

Fastest service I have ever experienced in a hospital setting. It is often better and faster to make a trip to Mindemoya from Sudbury for emergency services ie broken bones stitches etc so long as the person is stable.

I loved the care I received at Mindemoya Hospital. I had a tree fall on my knee and after a 1/2 hour or so I was seen and within an hour I was released with bandages galore but no broken bones! Great service, especially the administration and all the nurses. The doctor was gentle and considerate.

My mother had to attend the ER for assessment. She was treated with compassion, kindness, understanding and efficiency. All diagnostic testing was quickly completed. We are both exceptionally grateful to the professional and competent care she received from the moment she entered the assessment centre and it carried through to the admitting clerk, the nurses and the Physician on duty. Thank you to all working the morning of April 24, 2022!!
