I bought my Pfaff 1196 used about 20 years ago at UBC Surplus Recycling Facility, and have used it since. It has been getting less and less happy as time went on, so I looked on the web for a sewing machine repair shop and found M & I. Took it in there and Ivy helped me out. It took a week and not as much money as I expected. She fixed all the stuff that was wrong with it, and she told me some machines to avoid, and said that mine was an industrial machine design in a domestic machine, so a very good machine which would last a long time if I took care of it. Thanks, Ivy!

I have a fairly cheap singer sewing machine I bought 10years ago from London Drugs. When the bobbin got jammed I tried to fix it and the whole bobbin case came apart!! M&I fixed it, serviced it and when I went to pick it up she gave me a 20minute lesson on how to use all the stitching adjustment (I’m not one to read the manual). I would highly recommend them, she knows her stuff. She is not always there so you must call to let them know when you’re going to drop off and pick up.

Took my machine in for a service 6 months ago. I let them know that the sewing machine's foot paddle is sticky and would like them to look at that. They cleaned and oiled the machine but nothing else is fixed. The lady told me nothing was wrong with the paddle and it's likely to have a loose wire and she wrapped the wire with black electrical tape. Which did not make sense to me at the time since the light was working perfectly.Today a part came off from the foot paddle and that was loose the whole time! Unless you don't know your machine or you have a novelty sewing machine, I recommend taking your machine to a real sewing machine servicing company. They may have good customer service, but they really don't know the machines.

My 20+ year old Pfaff Hobbymatic970, a basic manual sewing machine, had been having problems for a while. The tension was off no matter how I adjusted it, and the press foot would not stay down firmly at all. It seemed the interior mechanism was in need of a major tuneup. I google searched for sewing machine repairs in Vancouver and found M&J Sewing Machine & Services on Broadway has a fairly good review. I called first to check if they repair Pfaff machines, they said they only repair manual Pfaff machines but not computerized ones. I took my machine in on a Monday and it was ready for pickup on Friday. Ivy, the owner, explained thoroughly what was wrong with my machine and walked me through how each component should work properly. She also reviewed with me how to loop the thread and bobbins to get the correct tension, and a few more tips to get the most out of my sewing machine. Ivy also carries some parts and accessories. I bought some bobbins for my machine which is not available in fabric stores or on-line stores. I am very pleased with the repair and service provided by Ivy. I highly recommend this place and will definitely go back for future repair when required. The repair fee is also reasonable. It is a cash-only store and a 50% deposit is required. I hope this review is helpful.

I have a Sears Kenmore sewing machine that is 43 years old which had never been serviced. It finally stopped working and I expected I would face a big repair bill, or I would have to buy a new machine. After much researching (not easy to find someone to service sewing machines), I came across the good feedback on M&I. So I took my machine in for an assessment. Ivy tested it on the spot and assured me that the issue can be resolved. She was very clear on her quote and if parts needed replacing and she encountered more than just a basic service, she would phone me before proceeding. Such a relief for me to leave it with someone who I felt was honest and experienced. She completed the repair in a few days and when I went to pick it up, she demonstrated how to use the machine efficiently. Thank you Ivy. You are a gem!

Ivy is an expert in fixing sewing machine. My 34 years old Singer sewing machine was broken. She clearly explained what the problem was for this "old timer". As this machine was my wedding gift, it mean so much for me. Therefore, I decided to fix it. However, her store didn't carry the part for this machine. She tried to order some other places. Luckily, she found one from a dealer. She went there to pick up the part personally and made sure that was the right one. Finally, my sewing machine was fixed. I was very appreciated for her passion towards the work. She was very professional and showed me how to operate the machine properly.

She couldn’t tell me what was wrong with my machine or what she did to repair it. Paid $160 and my machine is still jamming and unusable

Brought my sewing machine here, and I could not have asked for a better experience. Ivy was incredibly kind and professional, and even gave me lesson on the do's and don'ts with my machine to keep it from breaking again! Repair was reasonably priced. Would definitely take my machine here for repairs or a tune-up in the future.
