My better half, who is the Shanghainese food connoisseur declared that Long’s is the “go to” place for genuine, home style Shanghai fare. Your typical Hole-in-the-wall, family run place complete with “cash only” requirement! The drunken chicken is excellent albeit a bit higher priced than other items on the menu; it’s served in a cute little pot which is deceptive as it contains quite a lot of chicken. The beef roll is tasty, and just the right taste, while the meat sauce noodle tastes sooo home-made. Excellent! The only disappointment is the Xiao long bao - steamed mini pork bun - which is a bit of misnomer as they were TOO large - which while allowing for lots of juices to exude out, dried out the meat! Plus the skin is way too thick - which I guess is understandable as I observed the lone waitress actually making these while trying to serve the tables. Maybe if it’s not so busy and the kitchen staff are the ones making these, that it will be better. Who knows??!! LOL All in all very satisfied with this Vancouver old timer! Even the way they tried to disguise an ugly pipe in the washroom - double LOL on this!

Ordered the zhazhang peanut noodles, crispy puffed rice covered in egg yolk, soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings and their Drunken chicken. They are known for their drunk chicken so I was excited to try it again. I've had their food before many years ago. It used to be our go to Shanghai restaurant in the area but we haven't been in a long time (3+ years). The crispy puffed rice covered in egg yolk was to be honest quite delicious as it was indeed crispy and had a bit of egg yolk flavour to it. But it wasn't legit 鍋巴 guoba (roughly translating into bottom of the pan rice) which is a bit disappointing as that is the name of the dish. Also would have appreciated it more if there was more egg yolk flavour in it. This dish was also on the pricier side (appx. $19). I would only recommend this if you are eating with 10+ people as this dish is pricey and it's only good for a taster (ie. One spoonful). The drunken chicken was a huge disappointment. In my memories, this was a very potent alcoholic chicken dish in a good way. But for some reason it tasted different from how I remembered. The alcohol flavour was not very strong and the chicken although very smooth didn't have much chicken flavour. Overall disappointing and wouldn't get it again. The zha Zhang peanut sauce noodle is a combination of zha Zhang noodles and peanut noodles put together. Zha zhang is like a fermented bean paste and it just masked the flavour of the peanut sauce entirely. They were generous with the noodle portion but other than that wouldn't order this dish again. The highlight of this meal was definitely the soup dumplings and the pan fried dumplings. The soup dumplings had a fair amount of soup in them and the skin was nice and thin. The filling wasn't overly salty. The pan fried dumpling was nice and crispy. Lots of filling on the inside. The meat wasn't overly dry. Would recommend these two dishes. Overall, stick to their appetizers ie. Their pan fried dumplings and soup dumplings. I would give their other noodle dishes a try. Avoid the three dishes I mentioned above. But I would want to try some of their other meat dishes as they sound delicious. Some of their dishes are slightly pricier but others are acceptable in these times. TIP: THEY ARE CASH ONLY. Please bring cash. You can also order ahead for pickup. The lady on the phone/counter is very nice and rounded down for us. The meal cost us 64$

Tiny place, packed full of Chinese people and cash only, you know you’re in for good Chinese food. The xlb skin was a bit on the thicker side but the meat and juices were delicious. The Shanghai noodles with beef was flavourful and the beef was melt in your mouth. The beef rolls were amazing because they added the right amount of hoisin sauce inside.

Had a dine-in dinner at 7:30pm with my friend. Didn’t made a reservation and the server expedited our dinner seating by adding a folding table in the aisle space between their regular larger tables. That was such a great gesture! The server says she hopes we don’t mind because if we had to wait for one of their table to be vacant, it could be another 30 minutes. ?????? This meal reminded me of our family dinner at the same place under the same management 15 years ago when granny was still with us. This time, we skipped XLB and opted for sautéed veggies (less salt as requested by us), hong you chau shou (spicy sauce on wontons) and added beef wrap (strongly recommended by the server ?) They we’re all good, esp the bok choy: crisp, refreshing and helps reducing meat consumption?. The beef wrap was less impressive in comparison- Wish there were more beef in it, beef was on the salty side. Might be just us as we prefer less salt in general. Overall a great Shanghainese cuisine experience. 老闆娘好好人,包餃之餘亦常常出來招呼客人。The lady owner is a very friendly person and she is the reason why customers keep coming back. Cash only.

Wow !!! The soup dumplings were the best damn soup dumplings I’ve had in so long. I wish I would have just order 3 soup dumplings aha. The dumplings were so soft, gooey, and tasty. The pan fried dumplings were also quite good. The female owner was so kind and lovely to chat too while I waited for my takeout order. Would 1000% recommend eating as many soup dumplings as your belly can fit.

Service and Friendliness have improved 100% since 5 years ago. Needless to say the smiles and thank-yous were never 3 years ago. Don’t know what happened, but everyone there were so polite. XLBs were as good as ever. Probably one of the best in Metro Vancouver. Pan-fried dumplings were also very tasty with a little hint of soup inside. Soup noodle with Smoked Fish was very flavourful. The fish came on a side dish. Broth was exactly the same in the Green Vegetable Chicken Noodle soup.
