About Little Learners Daycare and OSC Parkallen

Philosophy  Statement

Our method of teaching is a Learning Through Play approach.  The Learning Through Play philosophy states that play stimulates physical, social, emotional, creative, and cognitive development in the early years.

Children need time, space, materials, and the support of informed parents and thoughtful, skilled early-childhood educators. Play is a meaningful experience and tremendously satisfying for children. Play nourishes every aspect of children's development and much of this learning happens without direct teaching. It is learning that is important to the learner.

Play has an intrinsic value in childhood and long-term developmental benefits. Play helps to balance learning for individual children - the child engages at the level and intensity needed to support his or her own learning.

Little Learners Daycare wants to create an environment where children have the time and materials to learn to play that is conducive to rich, spontaneous play, and allows each child to interact in ways that enhance children's learning in play.

My daughter has been going here for a little over a year. I've always been more than satisfied with the level of care my child receives from them, and Corrina is ALWAYS available to answer any questions or concerns one might have. A fantastic daycare that I'll always be more than happy to recommend!

My son has been at Littler Learners for just under a year and our whole family loves it there. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They provide lots of outside time, fun crafts, and good food. My son feels comfortable and happy when I take him there and is happy when I pick him up. All the staff and management is approachable, willing to hear concerns, and provide follow-ups when required. I would definitely recommend Little Learners. A follow up note on this review: My family was very happy with Little Learners for quite a while but in September of 2019 we decided to leave because of a high turnover in staff. My son had four new room teachers in five months. This was especially difficult for him since he was potty training. The last teacher he had (Jess) was a lovely and dedicated teacher but was ultimately set up to fail by the managers by pairing her with many different assistants who were not up to the task of teaching or associating busy toddlers. We ended up having to find another daycare when my husband showed up to drop our son off on September 3rd and did not know any of the child care providers in my son's room. We were later told by management that his teacher was burnt out and moved to a different room and that the teacher should have told us that she was moving. It was not uncommon for the teachers to look absolutely exhausted at the end of the day. Jess, did everything should could to help our son transition to potty train at daycare but it was not a success. My husband and I were no longer comfortable leaving our son there with such a high turnover of staff. Our September fees were taken out of our account that day and were never returned.

Our son has been at little learners for a few months now and really likes it. He always comes home happy and is excited to go in the morning. They do a nice mix of free play, outside time, and arts/crafts that he enjoys, and the teachers are very good. A great little community daycare!

We have had a great experience with Little Learners for the 2 years our daughter has spent here. The two things that most stand out to me are the personality/professionalism/dedication of the teachers and the responsiveness of the management. It is obvious that the teachers genuinely love and respect the children. They are patient, and really go the extra mile to teach them about manners, sharing etc. (My daughter is often proudly sharing with us the tips she learned at daycare that day, i.e. β€œTeacher says we don’t say Boo-boo butt at the table”). It’s also amazing for me to see the daily proof of the things they’re learning with their teachers (letters, numbers, stories, songs). My daughter is excited to see her teachers every day which is a huge relief as she is otherwise very shy and attached to me. In terms of responsiveness of the management, I can’t say enough for Carolyn’s dedication to communication with the parents. I’ve e-mailed her at random hours and always receive a response right away. She’s helped me with planning a daycare birthday party and worked with me through constantly adjusting my daughter’s schedule from part-time to full-time. Also, even when there are changes (which seem to be an inherent reality of the daycare world), she does a great job of keeping everyone in the loop. We’re thankful to have a place like this for our girl!

Our daughter has been attending this daycare part-time since she was 10 months old, and we sadly have to leave as we are moving out of the city. We have had a great experience with great staff here. The daycare (especially the owner, Carolyn) has been so accommodating with changes in schedules and overall are remarkably flexible. There has been some turnover in staff, which has been a bit of a struggle intermittently, but they have done everything they can to make our daughter comfortable with the changes. We love that they have an in-house chef dedicated to making great meals for the kids (including breakfast, lunch, and snacks). When we were looking for daycares, our biggest concern was that our daughter would be lost in a sea of dozens of kids or not get any outdoor time. Our fears were alleviated by her attending this small, intimate daycare where everyone knows her name and they also spend lots of time outdoors and doing crafts. They have a play area in the backyard as well as are located across the street from a huge playground and splash park. The location being a few blocks from our house has also made things very easy. We're very sad to say goodbye!

My son has been attending Little Learners for almost a year now. The OSC program is great as they are continuously learning and have a mix of free play. There are days that they spend at the park/spray park which is great for my 6-year-old. The center is disorganized at times, but my family feels that since the teachers spend most their time with the kids it is a minor issue. My son has a great time and loves going which is the most important thing. Highly recommend!! They provide all meals and snacks which is great for busy parents. The center is convenient for kids that attend Park Allen school.

Our daughter has been attending Little Learners Daycare for just over two years and we have had a wonderful experience. The staff has been welcoming right from the start and have provided a fun and engaging atmosphere for the kids. Any issues that have come up have been addressed head on and in our experience, the owner has been transparent in communication with parents. I would fully recommend this daycare to any parents looking for a great community daycare.

We recently joined Little Learners with our two little boys (3 and 1) and it was the best decision we could have made. Not only are the teachers SO kind and wonderful, but our older son is also learning social skills and respectful problem solving. The language he has been using to talk about other students and himself clearly shows that the teachers have experience teaching young children how to navigate their feelings, and he feels safe to express himself and knows he will be supported in a kind and loving way. And there is tons of outside time and play!! We love Little Learners and would absolutely recommend it!!
