About Kraft Canada Inc

History of Kraft Heinz

Kraft Heinz’s history can be traced back to the individual heritages of both Kraft and Heinz. Kraft Canada's heritage can be traced back to James Lewis Kraft, who was born in Stevensville, Ontario. Kraft began his career by selling cheese from a horse-drawn wagon in 1903. Soon after, Kraft developed a process for pasteurizing cheese so that it would resist spoiling – ensuring that everyone could enjoy his cheese. This careful attention to quality carries on till this day.

Kraft Canada produces and markets many of the favourite foods and beverages that are the mainstay of Canadian kitchens. Kraft Canada's iconic product portfolio spans across 17 categories and includes brands such as Cracker Barrel, Philadelphia, Nabob, Kraft Dinner, Kraft Peanut Butter, Kraft Singles, Maxwell House, TASSIMO and Kraft Salad Dressings.

The history of the H.J. Heinz Company began more than 100 years ago, with an enterprising young man named Henry John Heinz. HJ Heinz packaged his first product – fresh grated horseradish – in a clear bottle so customers could see its purity. In 1876, HJ Heinz sold his first bottle of Heinz Ketchup. Preserving its tradition of purity, Heinz launched the first Ketchup that was and continues to be, completely free from artificial preservatives. Just a few years later, Heinz made its way to Canada.

Heinz Canada was established in 1909 in Leamington, Ontario where its first products were pickles sourced from local growers. Heinz Canada's product portfolio centers on three core categories: Ketchup & Condiments; Infant Nutrition and Meals & Snacks. Best known for its iconic Heinz Ketchup, the H.J. Heinz Company is one of the leading marketers of high quality ketchup and condiments, infant foods, pasta sauces, canned beans and pasta, and specialty sauces and salad dressings, all through retail and foodservice channels.

In July 2015, Kraft Foods Group and H.J. Heinz Company merged to become what is now known as the Kraft Heinz Company. This merger resulted in the creation of the #1 food and beverage as well as foodservice company in Canada, #3 in North America and #5 in the world. Kraft Heinz Canada represents $3.5 billion in annual Gross Revenue and almost 10% of Kraft Heinz’s global sales. Kraft Heinz Canada has 6 brands with more than $100 million in annual GR Sales.
