It has been a family tradition to camp here but we skipped it this year when we found out they had swimmers itch. We have been watching the lake getting lower each year too. The campground is wonderful. Clean & plenty of space between sites for privacy. Washrooms & showers are clean and so welcome after a day in the lake and sun. A wonderful place to enjoy for our family & a playground for the younger kids.

Stayed at the Kalispell Trail campground which is in Kikomun Provincial park. No reservation is necessary and your right beside Lake Kooconusa. It has outhouses but showers are free at the nearby South Pool group site that you can walk to or the Poderosa group site which is a short drive down the road. There is a boat launch at this campground and power boats are permitted on the lake. For the angler there is plenty of Kokanee salmon to catch. The lake is very large and goes all the way into the United States. There are lots of trails to ride your bike or hike. For a great treat visit the nearby Baynes Lake general store for an icecream cone. The scoops are large and a single scoop waffle cone is only $3.

This park is located in south eastern BC, Canada several miles off Hwy 93. The roads to the park are two lane paved roads and the turns to the park are well marked making it a nice easy drive and easy to find. The park is in hot, dry country in summer and while there are trees there is little or no shade at the Ponderosa Campground we camped in. We were glad we booked an electric site as we needed the air conditioner here. Unserviced sites have lake view, are larger, and have good space between. Electric sites are small with no space between. The lake is very pretty but the lake shore at Ponderosa campground is tall grass and a muddy shore. Good for dogs, tubes, and boating but not great for swimming. Big park with multiple campgrounds, sani-dump, cabins, group areas, and fishing. There was no privacy at the Ponderosa campground and the electric sites are very close together. Hot water showers and flush toilets available and easily accessible in this small campground. The playground and boat launch are not close to this campground. Good paved roads and level sites.

Very quiet place, washrooms are clean, the showers are big and have very hot water. The lake view is amazing and turtles roam around the area.

More than just the lakes! Perhaps most people visit this park either to lounge on the beach and in the water of Surveyors Lake or to boat in Koocanusa Lake but it's much more than that. The park has three general use campgrounds, one group site and a day use area, all connected by a series of trails suitable for walking and cycling. The trails lead through grassland and open forest (see the signs about the forest and grassland restoration program) all rich in plants, flowers, birds (including eagles) and other wildlife. The geology is fascinating with moraines, kettle holes and river bed deposits and there is cultural evidence of past railways (see if you can find the lingering marks of the railway ties in places under the current trail bed). All this in a warm, dry climate.

This is a beautiful provincial park. We were lucky to get a tent space. Unfortunately you have to put your tent on the gravel, which hurts. The picnic tables are beautiful and the beach is not far. The washrooms are super clean and fancy. There are limited showers for the surrey campground. Plan accordingly!
