About Hideaway Adventure Grounds
Kikino means “Our Home” in the Cree language and is inclusive to all. In the spirit of the name, owner and operator, John Ritchie, is passionate about sharing his ‘homeland’ with guests. He is well known for his legendary hospitality and welcomes guests from near and far to simply camp-out, be alone and re-energize in a quiet wilderness environment and if you choose, join him in an adventure.
Hideaway Adventure Grounds is the culmination of a long-time dream for John Ritchie. Located on 160 acres of pristine wilderness on the Kikino Métis Settlement in northern Alberta, the retreat is also in proximity to the Silver Birch Resort on the shores of Whitefish Lake.
Opening in 2018, the facility has evolved from a simple campsite to a wilderness retreat where both accommodations and customized experiences are provided. It is a place of learning, wellness, and sharing.
Hideaway Adventure Grounds provides year-round wilderness experiences and learning opportunities to local, national, and international visitors of all ages and backgrounds, promoting an appreciation for Indigenous traditions and the natural world.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tue-sat stay. There is so much nature, all the different plant life and variety of birds and soon over seeing a valley a meditation area that just WOW! When the sun is lower the way it shines though the trees. I believe if you enjoy nature and forests that bliss is easily accessible here.

I have taken school staff there for land based connections. We are greeted by John and his dog Buddy and once you get there…you feel like you have come home. I highly recommend Hideaway Adventure Grounds for individual or group experiences!
