About Jardins St-Léon Gardens

St Leon Gardens was started in 1979 in the beautiful little town of St.Leon situated in the heart of Pembina Valley 150 km south west of Winnipeg. It all started as a youth entrepreneurial project with the objective of keeping the kids in town busy & to teach the fundamental rules of running a small business.

The beginnings were very humble and idealistic.  We started our youth project with a small 15 x 30 ft. greenhouse, a 4 acre plot of garden, and 20 young ambitious entrepreneurs ranging from 10 to 16 years old. For a few summers, things were working quite smoothly. The kids in the project were still interested, a few greenhouses had been built, the gardens were producing good crops and some big stores in Winnipeg were purchasing our vegetables.

Unfortunately, a few unexpected events bought us back to the harsh reality of the real world. In 1989 the lake from which we irrigated dried up & eventually forced us to change direction. We sold everything at a very emotional auction in June 1990, relocated to Winnipeg where we took a few part time jobs to put us back on our feet. We then found a nice little empty lot at 419 St. Mary’s Rd. and the rest is history…

We thank you so much for the journey

Great place to shop for flowers, plants and food. Buy pickling cucumbers every late July for my homemade pickles.

I've driven by here many times but never gone in. Finally got a chance recently. It's a great market for fresh fruit vegetables as well as Manitoba made products. If you're not looking for the typical grocery store finds, this is a great stop for fresh produce. They had the BC cherries along with local strawberries. You can order ahead and have them hold it for you in case you're worried they're going to sell out. They also have kombucha on tap. Service is very friendly, the lines can be long at times but they do Have a lot of staff to help out and make it go by quicker. The cherries I had were fantastic, though the strawberries weren't quite as sweet as I like. The market is located right off of St Mary's road. There is a large parking lot that it seems to share with another business. At least everyone who went seem to be parking there. This is not discount grocery shopping by any means, but if you like a market environment with nice staff this might be the place for you.

The first 4 photos are from yesterday October 10/2020, it would be my last shopping trip until next year. The last 6 we’re from September and I loved the variety of produce you can get from the market! Until next year!

Great quality produce. Feels a bit cramped inside, it’s not great accessibility wise for folks with mobility needs, but overall it’s got a good fresh selection including lots of local options.

I had passed by this place so any times since I moved to Winnipeg and finally visited the store. We thought they are a plant store but we were surprised and amazed by their selection of local products! We ended up buying lots of baked goods and some produce but plants. St-Léon is definitely one of our favorite store to go now. Also I love that staff there is so friendly.

Amazing selection of local products and produce. You can get great grocery items, baked goods, all the way to you flowers and planters. The new brand of kombucha is very nice and the flavors are great. The new layout is great this year. Keep it up.

Leon's Garden is such a cute store. From providing the variety of floral arrangements in their garden center to groceries in the store they have a cute outdoor market that'll keep you busy with some local Manitoba produce. Come check them out! Check out my Instagram post @thatsomei for more info of what the location offers!

Best selection of fall veggies when you go around this time of the year. Lots of organic options and of course they are more pricey but you get local products that are just so much better in quality. Also inside the market you will find lots of local products such as ice cream, baked goods, honey, etc. I love going around end of September to October - they will have so many options of squashes! Parking lot is easily accessible and I recommend going early to avoid the crowd.
