Recently bought some vintage camera equipment from here, top notch quality pieces at great prices. I get the rudeness comments here though, talking to the guy on the phone, he's very abrupt, but in person they're very polite and helpful. I suspect they get a lot of tire kickers because of their CL ads.

Sketchy place... Definitely don't buy any expensive gear from here. Store was boarded shut in the middle of a weekday at noon...

*BUYERS BEWARE* If I could give 0 Star ratings, I would. My overall experience with Hit Camera was one of the worst i've experienced not just for a camera store, but a store in general. A few years back i had stopped by to purchase a prime lens for my Canon DSLR. The guy behind the counter seemed more interested in slamming his fingers against his laptop than greeting, interacting and genuinely helping customers. Didn't really bother me much, but some customers seemed irritated. I just wanted my lens. During the transaction, their merchant machine had froze right after i had entered my pin which means we had to do the transaction again in order to print out a receipt. Later that day i looked at my bank account statement only to notice i had been double charged. Not a problem, I go back to the store and this time the owner was there. I show him i had been double charged, he immediately jumped to a defense and started giving me a very rude and unprofessional attitude. Even after explaining what happened when i had purchased the lens a couple days before, he was not being very compliant and continued to deny it. I told him that money doesn't just vanish into thin air, there is paper trail on my end. There will 100% be paper trail on your end. he comes back after "checking" to tell me that the transaction only went through once. I decided to stop wasting my time with this dishonest thief of a business owner and took it up with my bank. I filed a fraud complaint against his company and the money was in there after their month long investigation which i had been reimbursed for. The reason I am posting this years later is because i had originally posted this review on yelp warning customers about this owners dishonesty and very shoddy attempts at stealing from a teenager. Unfortunately, my review (among others) had been removed over time. This is fine for fake reviews that get flagged but not for reviews posted by people who legitimately had bad experiences and it really wasn't too hard to differentiate between the two. Even though yelp states they won't allow it, Yelp WILL allow business owners to pay them in order to remove reviews they dont like, whether they were legitimate or not. If you've ever worked with yelp on a business end for a company you work for or your own business you will know how shady yelp really is. They will screw over business owners and help them at the same time. They place ads of similar business' (different from a similar business slide/tab on the side or bottom AFTER the listing) on business owner's listings and have them pay in order to remove it. So if they'd be shady enough to do something like that to business owners, you can believe they'd be shady enough to allow business owners to pay and remove low rated reviews. Just keep this review in mind. if you need something from them, bring cash but be prepared for disappointment whether you bring cash or not. the owner has zero customer relations skills nor does he really care to have any kind of outstanding customer service. I'd suggest just buying online from amazon or going to henrys, you'll have piece of mind knowing you won't get duped + warranty.

I think I understand why people are giving this place mixed reviews but I believe they are mistaken. The proprietor seems quite gruff to begin with but is actually just a little direct in his manner and not what most Canadian's expect in a shop keeper. If you're not there to waste his and your time (!) then he's perfectly accommodating, experienced and has interesting stock that's reasonably priced. The item I bought was at or below typical eBay private sale cost and in excellent condition. I was given logical, helpful advice on my needs and came away with what I wanted. Granted, the "shop" is hard to find, impossible to park outside and seems a little intimidating when you first walk in but it's well worth a little effort if you know what you want and are not just browsing.

Rude, dishonest, abrasive, and inconsistent. Years ago, I reserved an old Canon DSLR body with the owner, then made the long, long trek down to his "business" as a young teen to purchase it. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a dingy backdoor entrance that more closer resembles the entry way to one of those sketchy "massage parlour" places with parking in the rear. Owner says to us straight up that he had sold it. That's it. No explanation, refuted my claims about having reserved it, so a waste of an hour and a half trip. He had also tried to scam my buddy through a double charge through the merchant machine, and he had to go through the process of contesting it with his bank, because the owner claimed that it only went through once. I had posted my experience at the time about this Hit Camera store on their yelp page, but over the years it had become flagged, then hidden, then somehow deleted, even though Yelp claims that owners cannot pay to remove reviews. I suggest you read their Terms and Privacy Policy a bit more in depth to get the answer to that. In conclusion, go to literally any other camera shop in this city if you want to be treated with any ounce of respect and dignity. Some people just aren't cut out for business, and the owner of Hit Camera Ltd is one of the finest examples I can think of.

I was initially put off by all the negative reviews but after giving them a chance, I can definitely say they're not as bad as some people make them out to be. The owner may come across as being terse and unfriendly, but he's actually quite knowledgeable, just not too keen on small-talk/banter. The items I purchased were exactly as described and priced very well. With this in mind, call ahead to confirm stock and pricing, go to the store, pay for the item and leave. If it's in stock, you know what you want and want quality gear for decent pricing, give these guys a shot. If you're an indecisive shopper that tends to hem and haw while chatting up a friendly salesman, this is probably not the shop for you.

Dude bought my broken camera for $500, fixes it for a few hundreds and resells it for $1800+ US. Good for him, I was a fool, but I also feel conned. At least there is now a permanent public record of that transaction through this one star review.
