About Ground Yoga

RYT 200 Yoga Alliance

Bonnie's yoga journey began 15 years ago. From a young age Bonnie suffered with chronic neck and back pain. Visits to chiropractors and massage therapists were a common occurrence to help deal with the pain. Although frustrated, she resided to the fact that it was simply something she had to live with and try to maintain. Although sometimes life seems to direct one in a certain direction.

Bonnie began receiving multiply suggestions, that she should try yoga to aid with her neck and back

issues. After finally succumbing to what seemed like fate leading her, she walked into my first Iyengar yoga class. She recalls clearly the first time she did supported bridge with a block under her sacrum. She remembers how painful it was for her and could barely do it for 10 seconds and would continuously have to come off. But she kept with it and slowly but surely she began to strengthen her back and neck while also gaining flexibility. She stuck with it, she had to set an intention to do the work. Bonnie strongly believes this is the beauty of yoga.

It is not always easy, it can be heart work, it can be hard work. BUT if you stick with it, it can be the

greatest work of all - the more one learns about themselves the more connected and resilient one

becomes. So when the opportunity came to become a yoga teacher it was a natural and welcomed progression for her. Bonnie took her 200 RYT with Vicent Lu at Ground. She loves being a yoga teacher. For her it is an opportunity to connect with others and share joy.

Bonnie’s wish is that we are all able to honour our own journey in some way and come to realize our true potential. To celebrate the small things even though it can be difficult at times. To come to know that it is not the end result nor the goal but the moments in between that really matter. That one day we will all believe that we are so much stronger then we give ourselves credit for. Bonnie is honoured to see the growth within her fellow yogis. For on one level we are separate unique beings and on another we are apart of something that connects us.

Yoga-union.

I started practicing yoga at home 6 months ago and have been attending practices at Ground for the last month and it’s everything I didn’t know I needed! Every instructor is excellent and has their own style so there’s something for everyone. It’s safe space for all and every level is welcome. In my short time I already feel like I’m a part of the community. Love love love this place and I can’t recommend it enough. Ps, it’s affordable as heck!

Over the past couple months I have been attending classes at Ground Yoga daily and have had the pleasure to learn from nearly every one of the instructors. Every class has been enjoyable and rewarding. I can genuinely say that all the teachers I’ve met are friendly, knowledgeable, and each brings a unique aspect to their class. I recently joined Ground Yoga after doing yoga for a couple years in large gym setting. From my very first class, I loved the different feel of the studio. Not just the classes, but the atmosphere and community as well. As a student seeking to advance my practice, the different experience of attending the studio was also immediately apparent. All classes are accessible to all levels of yogis, but more options for intermediate and advanced poses are offered regularly as well. It has been a wonderful space to grow my practice and has had the added benefit of meeting many wonderful people, students and instructors alike. There is a wide range of classes that should suit any student, from relaxing and restorative Yin, to the more energetic Power flow classes. The management team’s passion for yoga and the community shines through. I feel they have succeeded in providing warm and welcoming space for all, and I’m happy to say Ground feels like a little piece of home.

I recently took the Beginner Workshop Series with Branden and it was an excellent way to learn the basics in a welcoming environment. I would highly recommend this class for people just beginning yoga. I have been going back regularly for classes and the staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. Thank you Ground Yoga!

There's something about rounding the corner down that last little section of stairs, taking off your boots and socks, and walking into the cozy and unassuming lobby of Ground Yoga. It just feels right. Having been a student and member there for some six years, and an Energy Exchange employee for most of those, I've had the chance to experience a wide range of what Ground has to offer. It's impossible to be all things to all people, and I've identified with some instructors more than others, but I genuinely believe that the three different owners/managers I've worked with all wanted the same thing: to help people find health and balance through their yoga practice while tinkering with a business model that would make it an economically feasible option for both the owners and their customers. Covid's been a real challenge (for most), but I believe (current owner/manager) Branden really cares about his students and is always looking for ways to support our growth and improve our experiences. Health and fitness are so unique to each person that I wouldn't presume to make promises, but give Ground an honest chance for a few weeks and you'll most likely be glad you did.

Ground is a great yoga studio for yogis of any level. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere where instructors extremely knowledgeable and are committed to helping you develop in your practice. Owners/management Brandon and Chad are so welcoming, offer amazing hands on adjustments and push you to do your best. I highly recommend this studio for beginners or those looking to further develop in their practice.
