A Note From Debra
Founder, President, and Brand Visionary.

We opened the doors in 2005. At the start, there were just a few of us and we were a tiny boutique. We made all our products in very small batches, put the labels on, and tied all the bows ourselves. We only had one or two estheticians working on a daily basis. It takes a lot of time and effort to start a boutique and to launch a product line. Things start very slow.

I loved what we were doing so much, and wondered if people would love what we were doing too.

It took me at least three years of planning to fully develop the idea of Frilly Lilly. I would create vision boards, read design books, go to antique shops, work with chemists, and a long list of other things. Some small details changed over the years, but I always wanted to create a beauty boutique. I wanted to have our own signature bath and body care products too. In this way, I knew I would love every part of Frilly Lilly.

I was fortunate to have the help from my children and friends: Lisa, Jeremy, Claudia, and Carly all helped our very first boutique grow, and flourish. I’m so grateful for their contributions to our development, some of which continue today.

Shortly after we opened, I was in Las Vegas for a business trip. I don’t know what motivated me to do it, but I decided I wanted to show our products to a few businesses. After putting so much effort into developing our products, I think I was hoping for some feedback.

The first place I visited was the Palms Hotel, and they decided to place an order on the spot! We had never planned on selling our products to businesses other than Frilly Lilly boutiques, it caught us off-guard. W were completely unprepared for such immediate appreciation and demand. The next two places I visited were the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas and Fred Segal in Los Angeles. They both placed orders. We were all so shocked, and excited. Not to mention it was extremely encouraging receiving such unbridled support from trendsetting businesses so early on.

Within a few years, our first boutique was successful, and we had other businesses carrying Frilly Lilly products. At that point, I felt prepared to open more Frilly Lilly boutiques. I was passionate about the idea of being able to expand our female-founded company, as well as providing other women with the opportunity for leadership and entrepreneurship. I wanted to give women the tools they needed to be empowered and successful.

Our next boutiques opened in 2009 in Calgary’s McKenzie Towne, and in Victoria (BC). Shortly after, we opened our Aspen, and Crowfoot Corner boutiques in Calgary, and our boutique in Vancouver’s trendy Yaletown. We garnered more and more acclaim for our space, products, and services. All the while, strong female candidates presented themselves in the running to open their own Frilly Lilly boutiques in their own neighbourhoods, and cities.

There are still times when I’m shocked that we have more than one boutique. I’m so proud of everything we have accomplished. It’s hard for me to believe that not long ago, there was only a handful of us doing the best we could to bring a dream to life. The community we’ve created is better than I could have dreamed, and I am so excited to see where we grow next!

I visited this location for my first time yesterday. I had a Hawaiian wax (my first one) and brow wax done. Based on the reviews I booked with Queenie and man am I glad I did. She was amazing and the entire experience was way less painful than I was expecting. Queenie explained every step and was so friendly I can't say enough good things about her. I think I'll be throwing out my razor and switching to wax for good. Next time I plan to try a manicure and pedicure as well. The facilities were so nice and welcoming.

I have only gone here twice for my eyebrow and lip wax but I always leave SO happy with the results! Queenie does an amazing job, and she really takes pride in her work. She is very thorough and is super talented. I feel like a million bucks when I leave! My only regret is not finding Queenie sooner and not having amazing eyebrows sooner.

I was very hesitant to try a new place for my eyebrows since I've been going to the same girl forever, but she's gone, so I was on the hunt for somewhere new. I'm so glad I gave Frilly Lilly a try! They were able to accommodate me for a same-day appointment for an eyebrow wax. Their store is very cute and girly, lots of trinkets and things to look at while you wait. Queenie is the one who did my eyebrows and she's such a doll. So nice, so professional, makes the experience great. I will definitely be back. and the prices are right on track for market. Well done!

I agree with the other reviews stating that Queenie is awesome!! I have not tried any one else there because I got Queenie the first time and have been going back to her ever since. She makes the experience comfortable and I trust her to do a great job! She is top quality at what she does. I love the whole salon as well! great atmosphere, I find all the girls friendly and the decor relaxing :-) the whole place is a breath of fresh air :-)

I see Rae Anne at this location and I have become obsessed with her! She is such a relaxed and kind human. I’ve had some poor experiences in the past prior to going here with waxes and other treatments and she totally got me over my fear and uncertainty trying somewhere new. 100% would and have recommended this place to my friends, it’s got the cutest vibe and everyone has always been so friendly and nice. Thank you for making me feel amazing every time I come to your business!!!

As other reviewers have said, the team at Frilly Lilly Kingsland are truly the best. I see Rae-Anna for my manicures and pedicures and she's great -- excellent at her craft, fun to visit with and super smart. Danielle, the manager, recently went above and beyond to get my favourite nail colour in time for my recent manicure, which was so lovely of her. The whole team is friendly and knowledgeable. I always enjoy my time at Frilly Kingsland.

I don’t usually visit Frilly Lilly for pedicures, as there are so many other options, but I decided to try as I have been carrying a gift certificate in my wallet for years. Booking was easy, and the facility was very quaint and clean. The pedicure was good, but not great, hence my sub par review. I have no complaints towards the tech herself, as she was very pleasant and kind. Unfortunately, the pedicure itself wasn’t great. The layout of the pedicure area is a bit awkward, with an uncomfortable sitting area and very small shelf area for the foot soak, etc. As well, the massage portion wasn’t great. But the very worst part is that after only 1 week, one of my shellac polished nails came off! Anyone who has had a shellac knows that the nails are usually pretty good for at least 4-5 weeks! For the price of the pedicure, I would have expected a bit better. With the amount of nail salons in the city and so many options, I do not think I will be returning to Frilly Lilly.
