About Extendicare Red River Place
Mrs. G., in her early 80’s, had been in hospital for so long before coming to our home that she had lost the ability to walk. Confined to a wheelchair when she first arrived, she didn’t even want to try to walk. She had given up. But thanks to the gentle persistence of our Care Team, we were able to get her to try physiotherapy. Slowly but surely, her strength started to return and she once again had hope. It took about 4 or 5 months, but we eventually got her out of her wheelchair and walking. She was surprised and delighted and became quite determined. Her goal was to walk into the Legion and surprise everyone who hadn’t seen her walk for years. A goal she did achieve and the excitement on her face was worth all the extra effort.
