I don't think this long term care home is even worthy of one star. My mother developed decubitus sore and died of sepsis. She was seen with nothing on her feet and not properly dressed. The physician that comes in once a week has a huge practice and uses this to supplement his income. My mother had colorectal cancer and did not see this physician until 13 days after her arrival. In my opinion this place should not be in operation but it makes income for the private ownership which is over seen by Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and they could care less about the poor elderly people that reside there.

Parkview Place is an amazing care home; a "jewel in the rough". It can be vulnerable to the old English idiom "don't judge a book by its cover", which is a metaphorical phrase which means you shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something, by its outward appearance alone. I was guilty of this, and very nearly made the mistake of moving my husband to a newer care home in the suburbs. But it didn't take my son and I long to realize that the care and compassion from the nurses, as well as the recreational and kitchen staff made all the difference for my husband, as well as us. As challenging as it is in today's healthcare arena, staff at Parkview maintained a patient - centered approach to caring for my husband. They always seemed to make the time for him, despite the inherent pressures in the profession. I'll always remember how the staff created activities that made him feel he was still working in the business world. I'm not sure that compassion for the patients can be taught to care home staff. I think Parkview Place has done a wonderful job of hiring the kind of people who just possess this moral virtue. I feel that any family would be comfortable having their loved one cared for by the compassionate Parkview staff.

The Pros: The staff are great and try very hard with what little staff they have on the floor and the staff who are part of the higher positions, that I met were all friendly and nice to deal with. The Cons: Sadly the area and they only have 4 visitors parking spaces, and being in the area it is, it is scary at night when you leave and have to walk a distance to your car. The building needs a total upgrade. Revera should spend their money on fixing up their homes rather than giving money to charities, but then they would not receive their big tax breaks, however they should not be spending money on charities at all. I say shame on you for doing so. The money we spend to keep our loved ones there should go back into the home. The food is not great, and most times the "hot meals" were very cold, the snacks they offer are not healthy either. The staff is very short they only have two health aids on at all times and there should be at least three. Also the nurses work two floors so how they keep track is beyond me. My mother was there for 4 1/2 months and never once did I meet my mother's doctor, when I asked the nurses they would ask why and would never allow me to see him/her as I don't even know what gender the doctor was. The elevators are very old and slow and you have to stand in line sometimes for a long time before you even get on one. My mom was taken to the hospital twice in the time she was there and each time we came back half her belongings were taken from her room, I kept asking for a lock and it wasn't until two weeks before we moved her that they finally put a lock on the door. All in all besides a few of the great staff members this home is iffy at best but when the WRHA places you there without a choice there is nothing you can do.
